A plastic duck got forgotten by its young owner after rolling under the wardrobe. Luckily, the toy was found by a wandering Rotom who happily haunted it. Far less mischievous than its kin, the electric ghost wants nothing but a friend to play with. Hardly surprised by the sudden appearance of this new toy in their room, the child, without any fear, began to play with it as if it were any other inanimate toy, grabbing it with their small, dirty, drool-covered hands to make it fly around, or sitting it down at a miniature table to have some imaginary tea. However, the room is overflowing with hundreds of other toys, all colourful and attractive to the children who is obviously spoiled rotten with numerous toys as a way for his parents not to feel bad about being unable to spend with him. Thus, when the kid, having the attention span of a kid, finally abandons the plastic duck to play with something else, the haunted toy comes fluttering around him, until the child abandons what he was doing to go back to playing with it.

The absent parents took a while to realize that this toy isn't quite like the others. Since his parents were the type to give more money than attention, it took them a while to realize that this toy wasn't quite like the others. Initially frightened, they eventually realized that the Pokémon was completely harmless. Then, why not accept the presence of a free babysitter to keep an eye on the little boy when they were too busy elsewhere?

And thus, Rotom, in its plastic duck form, ended up becoming the little boy's best friend, who loved to tell it about his days at school, out loud, almost loud enough to cover the sound of his parents shouting at each other in the living room.
