He is living in a desert, in a very small town with no more than 20 people. He lost his leg in an accident to do with the locals, and made his own prosthetic from scrap metal. Naturally, it is incredibly heavy and quite hard to move in, so he cant wear it or walk for long without needing to take a break. Since he made the leg himself, it obviously doesn’t have the nerve control more advanced prosthetics do (I mean it’s literally strapped to his stump with belts) so it functions almost like a ball jointed doll's
