Personality

Cedric doesn’t interact often with people, but when he does, it is by accident, or he specifically is being sought out. He’s never quite present it seems, and he would much rather watch people instead of interact with him. He realizes that he is a frightening being to contact, and that he has little to offer people except for his light dealings with other otherworldly creatures, or carrying messages to the spirit world.

History

Cedric's past has been lost to time. Not even whispers of memories remain of him, and whoever or whatever he was in his life has been will forever be a mystery. He cannot even recall back to his first memories as a spirit, for the are always changing, and time never feels quite linear to him. For a long time he wandered aimlessly between the mortal and spirit realms, searching for something that he could not quite recall.

At one point, his strange, nearly human presence became recognized by a couple of beasts, and gods, who took pity on him and taught him language, magic, history, and some social etiquette again. They gave made him a messenger since he was not restricted to any place, realm, or time. Cedric did as was asked for him, and asked for nothing. The gods, still pitying him, gave him his name.

The gods attempted to find Cedric's original body, or something of his past to try and give Cedric a sense of life again, but they could find nothing. They suspected that as a mortal, Cedric must have wandered into the spirit world and was unable to find his way back. Rather than disintegrating as most mortals would, Cedric became a literal shadow of his former self.

When one of the gods explained this to Cedric, they expected this to stir him, but it did not. Cedric simply told them that he had already came to such a conclusion himself, but this did not upset him. His lack of purpose and identity was a lonely, and sometimes painful thing to endure, but he was freer, and more at peace than any mortal, or divine being ever could be.
