As a fairy born of ice and storm, Hail always had a bitter chill about him he could never shake off. No matter how many times he has been summoned again to life, the dark fairy always came back the same. Cold, harsh and apathetic, with a twisted sense of morality as solid as an iceberg. Hail is strict, his punishments are unkind to those who disobey his impossible rules. The perfect make for a fairytale villain. But ah, fate is not so kind…

Hundreds of years ago, in the time of Hail’s Once-upon-a-time, the ice fairy had ended up in the servitude of the Lapin family, a noble family of woodland fairies who were often targeted for their riches and sins against others. Hail, a mage of curses and cold was perfect for the job to protect them. As the years went on and generations withered, Hail was summoned back to life to be a continuous companion to the Lapins, often acting as a godfather for the young.

The world modernized, fairytales and magic had become obsolete. The sands of time eroded the memories of Hail’s service, and he was long forgotten. That was until Veronika was born into the Lapin family, sparking Hail’s spirit to be reawaken again. Hail saw her differences from the rest of her toxic family, and he took it upon himself to protect her in the best ways an evil fairy could. He held strict rules over her head. As harsh as it was, his ideals were effective through the rougher times in Bunny’s life. One of the many rules were to keep his existence secret no matter what.

As the years went on and Bunny grew up, she made friends and discovered freedom in her peers. Hail’s rules no longer needed to be in effect. As he discovered Bunny’s happiness, Hail started to venture out on his own on a new path of freedom for himself, trying to find his own identity beyond the servitude he’d been captive to for hundreds of years.
