a kind, generally quiet and careful man who harbors a love for exploration and knowledge. he tries his best to be as patient and caring as possible, despite becoming easily nervous and flustered; he’s also occasionally stupid and too curious for his own good. quite a bookworm. he’s not quite used to receiving romantic affection, so it embarrasses him easily and quickly, though it’s important to mention that in spite of that, he has a lot of love to give, too.

- he tries to keep in touch with his parents often.
- while “mages/bookworms are made of paper” is a popular character trait, he wasn’t and isn’t that physically weak! a lot of the activities he had done while living in the shroud gave him a general workout, especially considering his parents made sure he did it at all. he slacked on it when he moved, but picked the routine back up again during arr+hw.
- he’s a very hard worker, but stresses easily over getting things done so it’s not uncommon for him to get fewer hours of sleep than he should, or to miss a meal from being so absorbed into his work.
- a very fast learner, especially if someone or himself gives him a task to learn about something.
- he's had two previous romantic partners.
- he’s got a bit of an old sense of style with his fashion and speech, and because of that (among other things) he gives off a feeling of being much older than he is.
- he is physically scarred; the scars on him travel from his hands, to his arms, and barely reach his back. he is very self-conscious of these scars and thus hides them, notably a reason why he wears heavy clothing and gloves with almost everything. thankfully, it takes a lot for him to overheat.
- also a naturally warm person, practically all the time. just like a portable space heater, really.

- when young, if he was out in the sun for too long, he would get freckles on his face. as he got older it became more rare for them to appear, though it can still happen!

kierrald was originally born in thanalan, but was abandoned as a toddler without even a name given to him. while tragic, he was luckily found by an adventuring couple who swiftly adopted him upon the discovery of his abandonment, bringing him back to their home in gridania. even more lucky was that this was around the time the couple had decided it was time for them to settle down. whilst growing up in the shroud, and heavily influenced by his father, kierrald had garnered a major interest in aether, history, general adventuring, and anything that related to magical abilities. because of this, he would read any and all books that were available to him on the subjects he was interested in. he had briefly tried conjury, though immediately found it wasn't a fit for him. eventually, he had pleaded to his parents to let him travel to ul'dah so that he might pursue thaumaturgy, and of course they gave in in time.
- pursues thaumaturgy and it immediately clicks for him.
- looks into alchemy at the same time while living in ul'dah, both due to an interest in it and to help himself make a living.
- starts on the path to becoming an adventurer, but doesn't devote too much time to this, as he has more enjoyment in alchemy.
- finds out that black mages are/were a thing, researches it as secretly as he can, and becomes interested enough to the point where he'd like to become one himself.
- i've yet to decide if he legally or illegally procures a soul crystal.
- oh fuck it's the calamity (he's 18~19 during it)

- thanks to some shenanigans happening in ishgard from fabled "warriors of light", trade and communications now begin to open between eorzea, coerthas, and dravania. kierrald's ties to alchemy (and sort of adventuring) allows for him the ability to travel to and fro between these places.
