Beatrix Wolfgang ✧ Tiefling ✧ 30yo female ✧

Wolfgang was born into an eccentric household. Her parents, both tieflings, were highly regarded as auteurs and stringently avoided anything that could be considered conventionally demonic. Anything arcane was considered gauche. She was expected to carry on their artistic legacy, but disappointingly showed no talent for postmodernism. Their detached and sanctimonious parenting style was frustrating to a serious, young child who desperately needed structure. After becoming more and more combative, it was a relief when she was sent away to a guild academy, where her parents thought some artistic sensitivity would be drilled into her.

Instead she discovered like-minded peers who encouraged her to follow her own studies and embrace her tiefling nature. She found her natural talent lay in engineering, using her innate magic to create practical devices. Years of arguing with her parents was honed by intellectual debate, and she was able to craft a cunning bargain with her patron demons, the Nalfeshnee. In return for meting out justice in her plane, she was granted the ability to infuse a certain degree of life into her effigies.

For her final presentation, she created the Colonel, a beautiful replica cockatrice that could serve as a weaponised mount. She graduated with merit and went on to “fulfill” her end of the bargain by joining the Nightwatch police force.  

Heritage
Nalfeshnee ✧ The Judges

Nalfeshnees are judges of new souls who arrive in the Abyss. Often, a nalfeshnee’s realm in the Abyss surpasses the strength and size of the largest of mortal kingdoms, for nalfeshnees display a singular gift for managing and ordering the chaos of the Abyss. Some claim stewardship over the fleshy realms that birth new demons, while others guard sites of particular significance deep in the plane’s secret reaches.

Few demons understand the inner workings of the Abyss like the nalfeshnee, and it is not unusual to see a nalfeshnee seeming to serve the Abyss itself rather than a demon lord.

Mortal summoners often seek them out for their unparalleled intellects, taking care to comb through bargains for hidden and unwanted consequences, for there is little a nalfeshnee will agree to do that does not advance the needs and desires of the Abyss.

The Colonel
Cockatrice effigy ✧ 150cm at the withers ✧ 450kg

Colonel was made by Wolfgang in her final year of study, after much trial and error. He runs on a mixture of coal power and magic, and was created in the image of her family’s pet cockatrice (on a larger scale). He is not a sentient creature, but he does seem to have a bit of a personality. Like a rooster he jealously guards his owner and postures when he’s not getting enough attention.

He can ingest coal and hextech cores through his serrated beak, and is powerful enough to carry Wolfgang when need be. There is a cushioned saddle installed on his back for comfort, but he can only reasonably carry one rider. He’s largely made from iron with segmented  bronze casings, making for a robust effigy that can take a beating. The Colonel is also equipped with a battery in his chest that can release a powerful sonic boom or discharge excess static electricity through his metal surfaces.
