Design Notes

Unless he's got a hat, the big cowlick/ahoge is a staple of his design.

Meant to be a little tan naturally; he's hispanic.

Fashion is mainly sailor themed and vintage.

Greatest Strength

Physically he's fairly strong from living with sailors, sharing their high energy as well. He's often relied to do the physical work during cases as his partners are all pretty small.

Greatest Weakness

While he's not exactly queasy, he becomes unnerved at the sight of injuries. Just as impulsive as Emii, if there's a dangerous figure, he'd go right in to fight them than run away, putting himself at risk.

Playing piano

While he doesn't know the names of the songs he can play, they're difficult enough that he sounds like an experienced pianist. He doesn't have regular access to learn anything new either.

Fishing

He's a novice as it's easier to use a net than a rod. He's also naturally restless so he gets impatient and would rather do something where he's up and running.

Blackjack

Emigdio has a pretty good intuition when it comes to playing blackjack, but if he wins too much he'll get too comfortable that his luck wanes.

Positive Traits

As if second nature, Emigdio is able to lighten others up by being the way that he is; playful, contagiously smiling, and comedic. While Emii hardly smiles, she'll occasionally smile after he does first. He's a freespirit so he's not worrisome, quick to falling asleep after a messy case or always having an appetite.

Neutral Traits

He's got the demeanor of a younger brother usually, often asking many questions and needing guidance, but occasionally he'll act reponsibly enough like a protective older sibling. Being surrounded by many caregiver-like figures, he's used to being taken care of, but can unconsciously harbour their mature traits at times.

Negative Traits

His childishness can get in the way as he's not as mature as Emii, or as intelligent as Cherry and Rodel when it comes to technical detective work. His guard can easily be down as he's swayed by feelings and a hesitancy to hurt others, but he'll also pick on Rodel and pinch his cheeks or ruffle his hair often.

Others' Perception

Loved Ones

Those especially close to Emigdio openly treat him like family, enjoying that he's an eager listener and easily laughs at the simplest jokes. They acknowledge his share of burdens than he may show, but he's just as easy to hype up when theres a worry.

Strangers

Strangers see his well enjoyed youth so there's a hint of jealousy, yet an endearing feeling that there's a handful of carefree people around in their complex world of humans alongside the supernatural. Many aren't considered strangers to him since he'll quickly introduce himself to those around him as a friend.

Enemies

Those who dislike Emigdio may find him to be loud and rowdy like a typical sailor, a hassle to be around. Culprits specifically regard him as inept compared to Emii, and think they can easily outsmart him. When he catches on he can become a hurdle to their plans..

In his past life, Emigdio was born and raised in Spain for most of his life as an only child. For as long as anyone could recall, he’d always been an easily happy person, content with all he had and all that came into his life. Without knowing the slightest bit of Italian, his father took him along to Italy one summer to meet a handful of acquaintances, being a well known ship captain. While the trip was intended as a vacation, it ended up being the last summer of Emigdio’s life.

When they arrived, Emigdio relied heavily on his father to do the speaking, to translate, but he picked up on a couple words that sounded similar to those in Spanish. Likewise, Italians could understand a bit of what he’d say in his native tongue. Even so, the trip was enjoyable and he got to see many landmarks, experienced first hand the differences between Italian and hispanic lifestyles, and he learned more through shadowing his father’s work. That was his inspiration to become some sort of sailor or something greater, to be close to the sea and see new places. At one point when he wandered off away from his father to see a crowd celebrating Capella and the town’s prosperity, Emigdio was caught up in a massive sinkhole that suddenly appeared. His father survived being away from the perimeter of the hole, leaving Emigdio on his own when his afterlife began in the Vermillion town of Vellenice.

Appearing by a group of sailors well immersed in their town, Emigdio was taken in and immediately felt at home in his shared home. Despite being hispanic, he admits his italian is much better, not having any memories to tie into his nationality anymore. Not finding any friends close to his age, with gaps among his brothers, he did feel considerably younger than those around him, settling with the role he had of a curious sibling. His efforts in helping with shipbuilding and fishing were minimized in worry that he may get hurt, his brothers encouraging him into becoming a gondolier. Initally finding joy in the occupation, that's the lifestyle he was comfortable with.

Being a gondolier doesn't pay well, if at all. Emigdio didn't have any financial obligations, with his family always getting what he'd need, but if he aspired to do greater things he may need his own savings. Each morning he got used to joining his brothers at the pier, but when their paths split and he'd hop onto his small gondola, he somewhat wished he could do something even more hands on and different.

When Emii appeared, he had a much more excited outlook; she was his age, new enough that she would need a guide, and if she was looking for a job, Emigdio might as well look with her. He might’ve expected a restaurant job or something simpler, but when they got dragged into becoming detectives, he went along with it if he could stop some bad guys with Emii. The cases they initially had were trivial or easy, but as cases became difficult and complex in severity, Emigdio had felt a bit of hesitancy, but the team he had worked well enough that any doubts went away.

Having undergone a number of different cases alongside Emii, Cherry, and Rodel, Emigdio ultimately enjoys his work as a detective. He learns more in and out of cases, and appreciates the new people and places he gets to see along the way. Even with dreary situations every once in a while, he knows his work is demanding and he’ll need to keep his head high for what comes next.

The sailors he lives with have always regarded him as a cheerful and playful kid, and as time goes by they’re relieved to still see him as such, knowing they may not be able to stomach some of the things he’s seen. There’s a subtle air that he’s become more mature as well, sometimes surprising them with the things he learns, or sounding a bit motherly not beating around the bush in terms of advice.

He doesn’t think too hard about the foundations of their world, being someone who lives in the moment and looks forward to the future. When he looks back at the peaceful yet repeating days he had before, he is certain he would rather continue being a detective at his friends’ sides.

∙ He's allergic to roses, so it's best not to depict him near them. fake ones are fine.

∙ He likes St Bernard dogs the most. His town doesn't have any but in his past life he had one back in Spain. Since he was little, the dog was much larger than him!

∙ He gets the whole attic of the sailor home to himself. The view of the sea is nice but the others basically get the same view too.

∙ He doesn't know how to say no to others.

∙ Inspirations for his character are Marisa kirisame and Utsuho reiuji, probably.
