Coffin, real name Nicodemus Lloyd Eldritch, is a boastful bobtail cat that tends to be self-centered, but he helps out when he can, usually because he feels obligated to do so. Despite feeling obligated to help, he puts effort into it and will try to complete it to the best of his ability.
The 'ghost' that follows Coffin around is a part of him. The 'ghost', named Blackwell, represents Coffin's insecurity, self-doubt, and worry. Coffin's boastfulness and self-centered-ness is actually a front and he is deeply insecure about his talents and constantly doubts himself. Despite that, he is still helps out when asked and makes sure to complete it with the best of ability. If he doesn't complete it well or puts in half or little effort, it will eat away at him. Coffin's home life, before being adopted into the Eldritch Family, wasn't a good one, so he had developed this way. Being with the Eldritchs, he has became more confident in himself, but he is still pretty insecure.
There is more to Blackwell than just being a manifestation of Coffin's insecurity and self-doubt. Blackwell possesses his own thoughts and feelings while also being the manifestation and as Coffin changes and grows more confident in himself, Blackwell also changes.
