Abe's Story

Abe was an incredible horse. He spent a good chunk of his life helping people, myself included. Abe was a therapy horse, he was used for theraputic horsemanship. He had the kindest soul of any horse I had ever met,, he would always greet me when I came to the barn, he never argued with me (only when it came to bits! He ended up only using a hackamore for the last few months of his life), he was a hugger, and very gentle. He was in short a giant dog. I knew abe from 2015(ish) up until late 2019 and he easily became my soul horse. When I was with him, I felt free.. I felt happy. Nothing else mattered. I had no one growing up and started horseback riding to help with my anxiety and depression. Being with Abe really opened that window for me and practically helped me become the person I am today. He truly is my best friend, my soulmate. I'll always remember how happy he'd get whenever I'd bring him mints and dandelions; they were his favorite things ever! Something Abe had always suffered with was colic. Colic is an intestinal blockage that is typically fatal, however he would always pull through. Well, that was until the night of August 7th, 2019 when he suffered his last colic. His owners (who I consider my family), were out of town on vaction and sadly when the farm sitter came to turn the horses in for the night.. Abe wasn't responsive. Hours later, the vet had concluded that he was no longer with us. He passed the early morning of August 8th, 2019. These past years have been rough without him, especially how sudden everything was, but he's no longer suffering. He's buried on the farm and I make it my goal to go out and visit his gravesite at least once a month! I bring him flowers and just talk to him. He was such an incredible horse who lived a happy 23-24 years. He was so so loved and continues to be loved to this day.
