Reginald of the Renaissance - Get ready for a new experience in rock and roll. Heralded as unconventional, Reginald of the Renaissance puts a new spin on rock by infusing a classical vibe into the music. It has hit the world like a storm, and fans cannot seem to get enough. That the lead singer, Reginald, is incredibly private about his personal life only adds to the sensation of the band. What goes on for this young man when he is off stage? The world is left to wonder.

Personality

Reginald has always been extremely passionate about his music. It began when he was still fairly young, and took an interest in the piano. He studied the instrument for several years before coming upon the harpsichord. The unique sound it produced appealed to him, and he switched his studies to that instrument instead. While classical music is more typically associated with the harpsichord, Reginald found a way to infuse it into the rock songs he began writing. It makes for an entirely different sound, and it is one that makes him very proud.

Despite his costume, onstage Reginald presents as rocker. His performances are about the music, but it is also more than that. He also likes to put on a show. He can produce a show with any number of stage effects and lighting, and uses whatever is available. Reginald is very involved in the work that goes into his shows. He wants to make sure everything is perfect, and will put long hours into the work, forgoing food and sleep if he finds it to be necessary.

Off stage, Reginald comes off as a different person. He doesn't wear his costumes, and is much more timid and insecure. In some ways, it feels as though he's not himself without being on stage. He prefers to keep to himself when not working, and shies away from the limelight then. Interviews with him are extremely rare as he doesn't quite know how to talk about himself. Sometimes his publicist can convince him into an interview, but it will take an awful lot of convincing.

The Botched Interview

Reginald sat within his studio, his legs crossed and his foot bouncing up and down in the air. He already knew this interview was going to be a disaster. There was a reason he avoided reporters, and now one was coming into his home. “She will come and go,” he told himself. “Then it will be over and done with.” The words did little to relax him as was evidenced by the way his foot continued to bounce.

He had debated all week what he would wear for the interview, but had finally decided on wearing his stage apparel. The 1700’s aristocratic costume always gave him some extra confidence, even if it was very little today. Plus, he was sure that the interviewer wanted to meet the character he portrayed. The outfit was extremely warm, though, and he yearned to scratch at the powdered wig he had carefully set in place.

The doorbell rang, and Reginald started. For a moment he failed to move until he realized that his hopes of her just going away were foolish. He would not mar his reputation by falling to deliver on the promised exclusive interview. Taking in a deep breath, he stood to answer the door. “Hello,” he greeted.

The reporter was a young woman, though she appeared to be a few years his senior. Her brown hair was pulled back into a clip, and her brown eyes seemed to hone in on him. She stood there, staring at him, and it caused Reginald to flush. It also delayed him in inviting her inside. “Oh. Please, come on in.” He stepped back, motioning for her to follow him inside.

“I’m Penelope Smith from the Daily Rock,” she said as she followed. “So glad to be here. You’re a hard one to pin down, you know that?”

Not knowing what to say in response, Reginald said nothing. Being shy, he had evaded giving interviews for as long as he could. Up until his manager basically forced him into giving this one to make a bid for higher album sales. He returned to his seat, gesturing for Penelope to take the seat across from. She settled into it, looking at him expectantly.

Reginald returned her gaze, and an awkward silence settled into the room. He feared this would happen, and nervously adjusted the cravat at his neck. “Ah, can I get you something? A water or something else?”

Seeing a slow change take over Penelope’s expression, he wondered if he had said something wrong. “No,” she replied. “I am all set. So, this is a nice home you have.”

“Thank you.” He tried to think of something more to add, but nothing came to mind. Seeing Penelope’s expression continue to change, he couldn’t help but think she was disappointed in who she was meeting. This was just what he feared would happen in giving an interview.

The reporter pulled out her phone, and pressed a few buttons on it. Placing it on the coffee table between them, she spoke once more. “You have taken the musical world by storm. How do you feel about your recent success and to what do you attribute it to?”

He blinked, startled by the question. “Um…” He glanced down at the phone, realizing she was recording what he was saying and the long pause he was taking before giving a response. “Um. Well, I am glad people are liking my music. I suppose they were looking for something unique.”

“But there are those who say you are unique only by the costumes you wear. That if it were just your music, you wouldn’t be quite as successful.”

Reginald frowned. He wondered just who was saying that about him. “I… well, I put a lot of effort into my writing. I think my music would still stand well on its own.”

The look Penelope gave him indicated that she didn’t believe him. Still, she continued with the next question. “What groups inspired your writing and songs?”

“Oh, well, I suppose no one group. I liked listening to bands like Styx and Deep Purple when I was younger, and wanted to put my own spin on that type of music.” He was beginning to feel satisfied that he had an answer ready, but the look of disapproval did not leave Penelope’s face. The interview continued in such a way, with Reginald wishing more and more towards the end of it that she would just leave. When the reporter finally picked up her phone and pressed for it to stop recording, he couldn’t help giving a sigh of relief.

Reginald walked her to the door, watching as she took off down the path that led up to his modest house. “No more interviews,” he said to himself. “No matter what the managers and producers say.”

Relationships

The article Penelope writes about Reginald isn't the most flattering, but after confronting her about it, the two have come to an understanding. Penelope still refuses to retract her article, but has become a fan of the band. She'll follow them on tours, and Reginald will use her as a confidant now. So long as what he tells her remains private, of course.
