Water Sprites are characters from my story (story characters here) who are basically fish people who live in bodies of water around the world. My story is split into two sections, one in the past and one in present day. In the past there were no humans, and sprites lived across the Earth. In present day, there are only Water Sprites remaining, and they all live in one location. When making them, they can be designed to live in the past or present.

Types of water sprites

Tropical/Reef

Reef Sprites live in small communities in coral reefs, usually living in coral caves and carved out coral domes. Their fin spines are rounded at the end. Their fins are bright colors, and their eye color matches. They've adopted these fin types to blend in order to match their surroundings, and rounded fin spines don't get caught on coral branches as often as pointed fins.image0.jpg?width=676&height=676

Ocean and sea

Ocean and Sea Sprites live in larger cities and kingdoms on the ocean floor. They are well versed in architecture, so they have more advanced stone structures built for homes. Their fins are pointed at the end, and are deep colored.image0.jpg?width=676&height=676

Deep ocean/Sea

Deep Ocean/Sea Sprites do not often live in groups. They live in small, loose groups, or alone, often occupying cave systems on the ocean floor. They adopted bioluminescence, just like many other deep ocean creatures that live where the light does not reach. Their fins are typically very pale or very dark colored. Some particularly lonely sprites choose to leave their home in the abyss to live in lighter areas with other Water Sprites.image0.jpg?width=676&height=677

Arctic

Arctic sprites live in frigid waters, where they live in surprisingly large colonies. They live in ornate hand-carved areas in submerged portions of glaciers. Their fins are long, and tipped with long ribbon-like ends that help them navigate through ice tunnels. Their fins are usually blue, black, white, or gray in color.image0.jpg?width=676&height=676

Lagoon and Kelp

Lagoon and Kelp Sprites spend half of the year in Lagoons, and half the year in Giant Kelp forests. In the summer months they stay in kelp forests, but when temperatures begin to cool, they travel to tropical lagoons. These sprites often have a good sense of direction from the amount of traveling they do. Their fins and fin spines are rounded due to the lack of strong currents in the areas they typically live in. Due to their rounded fins, they do not do well in the strong currents of the open ocean.image0.jpg?width=676&height=676

In the past, sprites lived in their unique locations, but in the present the all live together in a hidden reef due to their small numbers. Because Freshwater Sprites cannot survive long amounts of time in saltwater, they are very rare, if not extinct.

Freshwater

Freshwater Sprites occupy large bodies of freshwater, including lakes, swamps, wetlands, and freshwater marshes. They are generally less advanced than their saltwater counterparts. Their fins are not as tight as saltwater Sprites, and are usually more dull shades of blue, green, and brown.image0.jpg?width=676&height=676

Marina

Marina is a Kelp Sprite who lives in a kelp forest along the coast. Unlike many other sprites, she loves socializing with humans. She is known in in a small island village for swimming up to the surface to chat with the locals. Marina disguises herself as a human in areas that don't accept her, but she is happiest when she is being her authentic self.
