DULCE - Marchioness

Lady Dulce, marchioness of one of the far territories of the kingdom of Nachtisch, has only just come into her power. Previously, she understood the workings of her lands only in theory, as she held no true sway over them. Everything was maintained through her father, a patient and hardworking dragon who had earned rather than inherited his title, and though he shared his knowledge with her, decisions fell to him alone.

He has since been summoned to the far reaches of Dragonhome to settle an ancestral dispute, though, leaving the territory in Dulce's capable hands. She has been waiting for such a chance all her life, and intends to excel at it come hell or high water.

Thankfully, no one seems to be fleeing her territory now that power has changed hands. Always a social dragon, Dulce has been involved with the dragons living near by since she was very young, and knows the names of many families in the area. Her knowledge of their hopes and fears is quite comprehensive for someone who does not actually live among them, and she has taken careful note of the concerns and complaints raised to her father's attention in the past. Truthfully, it is a little overwhelming, especially since her father was summoned so suddenly, but she feels she is ultimately up to the task.

More concerning is the reason for a visit from Winterspring, a key member of the royal guard. She worries about the news he brings of shifting magics and undead beasts ravaging Sornieth, mostly because such subjects are well beyond her limited experience. Nonetheless, she intends to rise to the challenge, what with the local dragons depending on her to keep them safe. She is the head of the outpost furthest from the kingdom's heart, and cannot afford to be anything less than confident and competent in the face of trouble.

She hopes, though, that it will soon blow over and prove to be nothing. Better over prepared than under prepared, of course, but she cannot help but fear what might lie around the bend. The sooner she can return to daily life, the better.

In the meantime, she has written to her father, informing him of all the news Winterspring has brought. Perhaps it will pull him away from Dragonhome in time to face the future together, but if not, Dulce is gathering all her courage to set plans into motion with Winterspring. He has made an interesting proposition regarding the royal guard, and Dulce cannot help but wonder if it would be advantageous in the extreme.

If her father earned his noble rank, then it is entirely possible that Dulce could do one better and become a spy. However, she must decide if that is a weight she can afford on her conscience.
