Ralph is the son of a trusted vassal of the demon king. He and his family has the power to make humans do their bidding with mere eye contact. This power was bestowed upon them by the demon king himself.

The power isn't really mind control, and isn't quite on par with brain washing either. It’s more like the target becomes obsessed with being of use to the demonic user, but nothing else changes.

Ralph, however, wants to live a normal life in the human world. He doesn't want to make eye contact with people because he doesn't want to cause trouble and have his demon powers affect them. As a result people don’t really respect him because of his gaze avoidance.

He’s kind of a meek fellow, and combined with how he looks at the ground all the time gives the impression that he’s a complete doormat (which is rather true).

It was hard for him to find a job, since at interviews he’d avoid eye contact and be dismissed quickly for being an unsuitable candidate. If he did make eye contact, they would try to hire him on the spot because of his demonic influence and Ralph doesn’t like that because he’s a very honest guy and he didn’t want to get the job if he didn’t earn it himself.

He’s currently employed as a daycare worker. He loves working with children because they aren’t affected by his demonic powers. For the most part, other demons are not affected by this power. Children are sometimes referred to by parents as “little demons.” They’re technically right, of course, since demons and children are rough equivalents when it comes to chaotic neutral.

He wears glasses because it actually delays/weakens the demonic power, at least long enough for him to break eye contact before the person is affected.
