A Quick Summary

13281651_QNrUPTcATfUwxMc.png

Fironos is a well-tempered former war dragon. He is generally calm around others but isn't one for conversation. As long as someone isn't annoying or rude, he doesn't mind the extra company but will remain mostly silent. He's better at listening than he is at talking.
Some days, he prefers to be alone, especially when his mental state hits a low. He's prone to violent outbursts, especially if anybody triggers any undesired past memories. He withdraws himself in order to not pose a threat or accidentally hurt someone.

As a former war dragon, he has a fighting drive and enjoys a bit of sparring with fellow dragons from time to time. Unfortunately, he can get rough and sometimes goes a little too far. He refuses to spar with anyone smaller than him, even if they brag about being strong enough. He's learned enough not to risk it.

His inability to be gentle makes Firo absolutely terrible with kids and small animals, but he makes an effort not to scare or hurt them anyways. He usually leaves if he feels he's scaring anybody and returns once the coast is clear again.

While some dragons love treasure and others love princesses, Fironos enjoys the warmth and comfort provided by a simple fire. It puts his mind as ease and helps him sleep on stressful nights.

Fironos currently resides in a large cave in the Dragora Mountains. From there, he watches over the Secret Garden.

Design Notes

  • Fironos' stripes and the edges of his wings are black.
  • He has three toes and a thumb claw on all of his feet.
  • His teeth are an off-white color!

Trivia

  • Fironos loves spicy buffalo wings. (He has no idea what buffalos are, but they're tasty!)
  • He loves watching fireworks and gets really happy over sparklers.
  • Point any crossbow or bow in his direction, and he's breaking that thing in half.
Misc.

Fironos is one of my oldest characters! He has had two designs in the past, but this current one is his permanent design.

Appearance

1240563_ZYaPjx5zl.jpg?1467340084

Fironos is an older red dragon. He has piercing red-orange eyes, dark red spines across his back, curved ridged horns, and a spiky chin. The spines towards the tip of his tail are longer, thick, and sturdy, making them a suitable weapon. His scales are a bright red and fade to a soft light grey towards the tail; he has a dark red mask marking over his face and various thick black stripes over his neck, back, and shoulders.

He has boomerang-like black-tipped wings with dark red undersides for cutting through the air with significant speed. His wings are tattered and torn at the edges from arrows and various weapons from past battles.

The thick long spines across half of his tail can be swung and used like a spiked club to beat down enemies.

Despite being an adult dragon, Fironos is not fully grown yet and will continue growing in size until he reaches at least 200 years old. Many of his species tend to grow to well over 10 feet, if they haven't already hit a growth spurt early.

Apparel

Fironos does not wear any accessories or clothing. He hates clothes.

Powers & Abilities

Fironos has exceptional flight maneuvering skills. He is capable of clearing tight spaces and skimming through obstacles with great accuracy. To do so, he pulls his wings in close and dives downward.

While gliding, he is quick and difficult to spot or hear. He can cover moderate distances in a few minutes and sneak up upon his targets without being detected. His wings are capable of cutting through thick storms.

Like most red dragons, he can breathe fire but eventually runs out of flames. It takes a while for him to recharge, so the fire-breathing is used sparingly.

Fire Breath
  • Fironos can breathe fire but uses it sparingly.

A play bite can quickly turn into a full-on chomp. Then it becomes less of a light-hearted tussle and goes south. He refuses to spar with anyone smaller than him, even if they brag about being strong enough. He's learned enough not to risk it. The only dragon that can stand his rough play and get out without any injuries is Blaine.

His inability to be gentle makes Firo absolutely terrible with kids and small animals, but he makes an effort not to scare or hurt them anyways. He usually leaves if he feels he's scaring anybody and returns once the coast is clear again.

It takes someone with a great amount of patience and resilience to befriend him, and he can be an extremely loyal and caring friend once he opens up. He is very protective over all that he cares about and the Secret Garden itself. When his friends and home are threatened, he'll stand and fight for as long as he has to, even if it means dying.

Firo carries quite a bit of distrust towards Humans and is wary of other dragons. Because of this, he struggles to communicate and interact with Humans and has only a choice few dragon acquaintances. He will actively avoid Humans or skip town on the days that Human travellers are in.
The only exception to this is the local blacksmith, who he's willing to tolerate the existence of.

While some dragons love treasure and others love princesses, Fironos enjoys the warmth and comfort provided by a simple fire. It puts his mind as ease and helps him sleep on stressful nights. He keeps a bonfire in his cave for this reason, and he loves it when friends bring over wood for the fire.

When upset, he withholds his anger and runs off to an open field or by the lake to burn things away from people. It's his way of venting and calming down. Quillie's flowers have suffered more than one full-torching, but Quillie doesn't seem to mind at all.

As a fire-breather, he dislikes the idea of swimming and will avoid large bodies of water, but he does enjoy staring at his reflection in the lake and soaking his head by the waterfall in Quillie's Glade. He only does it when nobody is looking.

Residence

Fironos resides in a large cave in the Dragora Mountains with a few other dragons. From there, he watches over the Secret Garden.

He rarely visits the town and has almost entirely left the town in the hands of the current keeper, Sebeon.

Backstory

Fironos fought alongside the Humans of the Secret Garden during the angelic-demonic war. He was willingly trained for battle and eventually partnered with a young lady as his rider. They were an exceptional duo and utilized their skills to the best of their abilities. He used his flying talents to act as the hidden eyes for the army - a spy of sorts. He would soar to the top of the skies with his rider upon his back and survey the lands to keep track of their enemy's movements. She would use her sharp eye and bow to take out singled targets and prevent messengers from reaching their destination. They had the ultimate advantage over the demons, who preferred to remain grounded.

The war was not very long, but it resulted in more battles for the next few years. In those years, Fironos remained by his rider's side through the toughest battles; they were inseperable friends.

After countless battles and multiple close calls, the war was finally over. The Dragon and Demonic Kingdoms signed a peace treaty and all was well again. Fironos and his rider, now simply a friend, decided to retire from their long journey on the battlefield and remained in the Secret Garden together.

Unfortunately, the town's peaceful days didn't last very long, as Queen Merukha picked them out as easy prey. At the time, Fironos had chosen to go on a small journey with a few fellow dragons to the other side of the continent and left the lady behind. The townsfolk weren't expecting an attack and had believed that everybody had resigned to peaceful ways, but Meru proved otherwise and struck them without warning. She harvested their souls to fuel her demonic sister's powers and spared not even a child. Fironos was grief-stricken when he returned and discovered the lifeless form of his friend among the piles of bodies found at the site. He felt guilt over leaving and couldn't bring himself to leave the town itself.

After he buried the bodies, he waited in the nearby mountains, overlooking the ruins of the town, in hopes that it would one day be restored to its former glory. Another dragon named Tesla joined him during that long wait.

Eventually, that day arrived. A strange raptor-like creature named Sebeon wandered into sight, searching for the lovely little town called the Secret Garden. Instead, she was greeted with the remains of what once was. Fironos took his chance and blocked her way with the help of Tesla, before she could leave in her confusion. He explained everything to her and asked for her help in restoring the town, to which she agreed...after thinking it over for a couple of days. With a bit of teamwork, the three of them eventually restored most of the town - now replaced with non-Human residents - and managed to re-establish it back onto the continent map.

After everything had settled, Fironos, proud of how far they had come, made the choice to step back and let the others run it how they saw fit; he entrusted the town's welfare to Sebeon and the townsfolk. He returned to his home in the Dragora Mountains and has remained there ever since, only offering his help if they desperately needed it.
