Early Life

Logan was born an only child. He never knew his father and in her depression, his mother spent most of her time drinking away the money she gets from her enabling sister. When she never returned any of it and didn't seem to show much appreciation, her family cut her off and she projected her anger and disappointment onto little Logan, who never heard her say that she loved him her whole life. In fact, he never heard it from anyone.

The one thing that still got paid for was the cost of Logan going to school, which he did with no effort at all, instead hanging with the wrong crowd after hours to avoid going home from a very early age. When his mother's condition worsened, he dropped out of school after finishing 8th grade to bring in some money and take care of her, even though she never thanked him for it while wallowing in self-pity and despair.

Becoming a gang member

One day, his mom had once again stolen some alcohol, this time from a nearby gas station and instead of facing the consequences, she put the blame on her son. Logan, already buried under a bunch of misdemeanors and smaller crimes known to the police, noticed the officer in front of their apartement complex and immediately ran for the hills.
Without anyone to take care of him and no means of contacting someone to help, Logan quickly got into all kinds of shady shit that was happening in his hometown. Due to his past actions he had previously met members of some of the residental gangs, but had always rejected them and treated them as an enemy. Now here he was, a 15-year-old teenager with no education and a criminal past. Unsurprisingly, when one of the smaller gangs called "the Comets" offered to take him in and get him off the streets, he didn't say no.

Betraying the Comets

The Comets, a group of just over 30 people at the time, were welcoming towards their new member and quickly saw the potential in his ambitionous and ressourceful personality, getting him into the drug business, teaching him how to evade the police and play mindgames on other people in their branche. A particularly close relationship was formed with the gang leader Eric, who was also the person that had the final say in Logan's acceptance into the gang.
Two years passed and Logan had begun feeling very comfortable with his living situation.
There was no real shortage of anything needed to live and despite his...complicated personality, the Comets had grown quite attached to their big-mouthed little prince. However the peace didn't last long - while out on an assignment, Logan got himself captured by one of the bigger gangs in the city: the "Black Hooks". The Hooks had recently become bothered by the small, aspiring gang in the corner of their territory and saw the boy as a way to get rid of them, no matter the means. Without giving his captors much opportunity to force him into submission, Logan rolled over on the Comets, personally walking into their HQ just days later with two teams of armed Black Hooks behind him. 25 people died, a number Logan is told many years later.

Switching loyalties and rising up

After the event, Logan joined the Black Hooks instead, impressing older members and higher staff with his ambition and ruthlessness and quickly rose in his new gang. His confidence assisted him in inserting the mindset of following his direction in his fellow gang companions and given his tough, condescending behaviour he became one of the people managing the prisoners among other things, a position he expanded on when he was put in charge of the area.
Over the next couple of years, Logan spent his time being a valuable asset for his superiors, while remaining a huge pain in the ass of his subordinates. It was around this time he took on the alias "Chain", being both a play on his job as head of the prison sector and his habit of making promises deemed as 'crazy' by others, yet somehow always managing to keep them. He became more and more known in his gang, even going as far as being noticed by people outside their district. When he was at the tender age of 22, one of the Hooks' upper management members was killed in a warehouse raid, opening up a spot with the really big people. Chain got that spot.

Being part of the higher staff meant he got to form his own personal unit which had to be somewhere between four and six people. Chain enjoyed having a specific group of people to tell what to do and picked some of the most memorable members the gang had ever seen to be part of his unit, ensuring that he would be noticed for it.
At one point he came across a young boy who was attacked by his mentally unstable mother and received heavy brain damage. Many other high-ranking people voted to turn him away or get rid of him, but Chain was adamant about getting the kid to be part of his unit, a wish he was granted. The kid, who could barely speak and wasn't able to communicate his actual name, was called "Creep" by Chain himself and became his most loyal underling in the whole gang for years to come.
Logan also kept the gang leader from sending a team to eliminate a very reckless, borderline crazy individual causing trouble with their deals and convinced him to recruit the guy instead. The young man introduced himself as "Jackyl" and deemed Chain interesting enough to hang around, soon becoming another very odd member of his unit.
Despite Chain's quick rise to fame within and outside the gang, he suspected that his background of turning on the Comets would keep him from reaching the leadership-position he was after, leaving him with an uneasy feeling regarding his objective value to his superiors.
