Faustina "Nina" Susurri is a religious fanatic who moonlights as a contract killer under the codename "Hush". She’s part of a small Christian cult whose devotees swear off eating and stay alive via divinely blessed nasogastric tubes in adherence with a dogma known as hole theory, wherein people are seen as holes in the fabric of God-- holes which may only be filled by God and godly things, rather than secular distractions like food or music. Severe calorie restriction/nutrient deficiency can lead to an altered state of consciousness, sometimes culminating in visions which are seen as divinely inspired.

Most people in Nina’s congregation basically lie around all day because they’re too malnourished to do anything else, so in order for her to be capable of carrying out her side job as an assassin, Nina self medicates with a serious regimen of illegal stimulants on job days. She’s working as a killer because she has no other skills and she's desperate to save up for a ticket off-world to find her missing father. She’s lost great swathes of her memory for some reason, and isn’t quite sure how she ended up in this current situation; particularly, she doesn’t know where her father is or why exactly she no longer lives with him. She's convinced, however, that he's no longer on this planet. She wants to get a one-man shuttle and pilot it into the blackness of space. She wants to never come back. There’s something she can’t remember that makes this whole planet feel like a trap to her. She’s desperate to get out, and maybe then she’ll be free of this memory she can’t remember.
