Overview

While the rest of Lucille's friends are living in a JRPG, she's living in a magical girl anime, and she thinks she's the protagonist.

Loud, flamboyant, and ever-dramatic, Lucille—known as Lulu to her friends, but only her friends—considers herself, in complete earnestness, a legendary heroine, divinely sent by the moon to enact justice and splendor across the land. She's incredibly theatrical and over-the-top expressive, always running around and posing, and speaking almost exclusively in rousing monologues caked in metaphor. True to her (mostly self-appointed) title, she carries herself with a lot of DRAMATIC IMPORTANCE. It's very stupid and she's very sincere about it.

Though her travel companions spend quite some time assuming she's just sort of happy to be here, in truth, Lulu is on a quest to find her missing mother after the departure of a church cardinal from their insignificant border village immediately preceded her disappearance. Struggling with the same lapses in memory her mother suffers from, Lulu acts out in desperate hopes of not being forgotten, and dutifully catalogues every step of her journey without bothering her travel companions with its true purpose. Darker secrets lurk under Adelheld's surface, though, and Lulu is well on her way to helping uncover them, unaware of the danger waiting for her and her friends...

World Info

Lucille's universe was written with the intent of playing with JRPG tropes and, as such, takes place in a largely typical "fantasy medieval Europe"-style setting. Her country is called Adelheld, part of a world called Ludgera. Adelheld is a classic monarchy heavily influenced by the Church of Light, which worships the god Caleigh. Magic is commonplace and a part of everyday life, ranging from combative spells to quality-of-life-use enchantments to alchemy, though not everyone can use it. While Adelheld is full of magical monsters such as elementally-enchanted animals, it lacks for sapient nonhumans. While demons, whose true forms are shadowy, ethereal, and pointy, may be considered exceptions, they are entirely confined to their own realm. This is a somewhat recent change; the generation before Lucille's just conquered an invasion of demonkind and liberated the land. While she was born some years after the dust began to settle, the Legendary Heroes who fought off the invasion in the name of Caleigh still live and have great influence on the country, which is still recovering from its war. Lucille is one of many adventurers, people who wander through the dangerous wilds, fighting their way through monsters, for glory, treasure, or simply the experience. The profession is dangerous, but commonplace enough that any place with civilization is prepared to accommodate travelers.

Appearance Notes

Please use this piece as an official reference!

  • These kinky curls were the big inspiration for her hair! Her hair is one of the most important tell-tale pieces of her design, and it's always kept big and natural and somehow absolutely luxuriously perfect (because of magic).
  • Her cape and sleeves are made of a gauzy material and covered in solid glittery stars.
  • Her boots are armored.
  • There are thin chains hanging off of the jewelry cuff on her left arm, and the stars dangling from her circlet and belt aren't fixed pieces, either; they...y'know, dangle.
  • Lulu is INCREDIBLY dramatic and over-the-top expressive; she's always running around and posing dramatically, and is apparently physically incapable of just standing still like a normal person. She thinks she's some kind of chosen heroine or whatever so she carries herself with a lot of DRAMATIC IMPORTANCE. It's very stupid and she's very earnest about it.
  • In combat, she's a red mage "jack of all trades, master of none" type. She's a reasonably experienced fighter, primarily facing off against monsters.
  • Swordsmanship: Lulu fights with a rapier, and pretty dang handily at that. Her primary interest is doing cool poses with it, though.
  • Magic:
    • Basic elemental magic; basic offensive strikes of fire, earth, water, or wind aligned force.
      • She abuses wind magic to make her cape billow dramatically when there isn't any actual wind.
    • Light magic: Lulu's specialty, although admittedly she mostly just uses it to casually make glitter and spotlight effects surround her whenever she's being especially dramatic. Although she has huge natural potential, she doesn't really know how to use it, and so her casual use of useless aesthetic magic comes easy like breathing to her.
    • In general, Lulu has massive magical potential, but her mother's curse and the goddess Leta's present weakness mean that she doesn't even know it, never mind have the capability to wield it. That's why she's constantly just sort of lowkey glittering, though.
  • General survival skills: As an adventurer, Lulu has had to pick up camping and the like in the day-to-day.
  • While "Lucille" remains consistent, Lulu gives a different last name every time she introduces herself (until the end of the Hexapath story, that is). The names consistently begin with "Lu;" Lucianna, Lucasta, Luberda, Luminosity, Lucena... She won't so much as acknowledge anyone who tries to call her out on it, instead moving on with the conversation like it wasn't said. While she'd never tell anyone, the truth is, she does this because the curse affecting her and her mother's memories has made her forget her mother's name, and her own last name with it; she's hoping that if she says enough grandiose-sounding nonsense that feels like it could almost be right, she'll eventually strike gold.
    • "Lunetha" is her mother's true name and the one she's trying to get to, but she doesn't realize it until the end of the Hexapath story, at which point she uses it as her surname exclusively.
  • To help with the anxiety her memory problems cause her, Lulu keeps an extensive journal of her day-to-day experiences, logging even the most mundane events so that she can trust that she'll have a way to recall the things she decides are important to her if she does forget. She refers to her diary, because literally this is just a teenage girl keeping a diary, exclusively as "The Sacred Texts."
  • Lulu doesn't have the language to call herself a lesbian specifically, but does have a whole bunch of speeches about how she's inexorably linked to the divine feminine by the energy of the moon or whatever. In practice, this means something more akin to "no (binary) boys allowed," as the woman who becomes her wife is genderfluid, despite primarily using she/hers pronouns and female-identifying terms (i.e. "wife").
  • She is fiercely protective of her cape, but also more emotional about it than she is about most things. If it tears or rips, she immediately drops all her noble pretense to start sobbing hysterically over it.
  • Despite having no proof that they exist, Lulu is terrified of ghosts as a concept (despite the magic in her world, ghosts are treated more or less like we treat them). So are many of her friends, and so Lulu is the very first to spring into action at the mere idea that a ghost may be nearby, hollering out dramatic threats and waving her sword vaguely in the assumed ghost's direction to keep her friends safe.
    • That said, if she's alone at the time of experiencing potential paranormal activity, she'll absolutely just leave.
