Story
I. Intro
Dolly grew up on a chicken farm in Missouri’s countryside with her 4 older brothers, both her parents, and a border collie named Bo. The farm made decent money alongside her father's side job as nuisance hunter, so Dolly lived a decent life.
As the youngest and the only girl, she was helicoptered heavily by her father which contributed to her dependency on others. Her brothers loved her, but she often found herself at the end of their jokes, unknowingly contributing to her insecurities. Her mother, head of the farm, wasn’t the warmest. She always valued hard working, purposeful children. Dolly listened to her and valued her command, but her love usually went to her brothers first. Nonetheless, her family did love her, even if they showed it in different ways.
Dolly always dreamed of making it big in the city as a singer. Her voice was the one thing she had confidence in, and wished to pursue it as a career.
II. Verse
Her family’s encouragement allowed her to dream big. When she was 16, she and her oldest brother took a very long road trip to Massachusetts to tour her dream school. On the trip, Dolly and her brother were in a shitty city hotel when something began occurring on the upper floors. Realizing they needed to flee for their safety, they ran into the city streets and got mixed up in a large, chaotic crowd. Dolly eventually lost sight of her brother and never saw him again.e.
Refrain
The same day as the initial outbreak, Dolly, unsure what to do to keep herself safe, would manage to find a small group. For a while they went across the states until they hunkered down in a safe town. The group was cozy, but they definitely didn’t tolerate strange activity, especially as they grew in numbers.
Pre-Chorus
When Dolly turned 24, a strange woman was found outside their group. She didn’t seem dangerous, but she wasn’t exactly giving off a welcoming vibe. She only introduced herself as “Songbird.” Dolly went out of her way to welcome Songbird, doing pretty much everything she could to speak with her. She gave her a tour, ate breakfast with her the next day, made Songbird go hunting with her, you name it. Truthfully, she was completely smitten with Songbird, and because of this, she was blissfully unaware that the women had ulterior motives for accepting her attention. To Dolly, they were girlfriends.
Over the course of a year, the atmosphere of Dolly’s home changed. On one end, there was hostility, fighting, rumors. Every day it seemed like someone was making an accusation or causing some sort of fight. On another, it seemed like walkers would get closer and closer to their homebase, and more people were having close calls with bites.
A member of the group would accuse Songbird of causing the problems, claiming to have even seen her causing trouble, but Dolly defended her, making up an alibi. Dolly would even accuse this man of lying, turning the tides of the debate. Unfortunately, not much can be done without straight proof. While suspicions remained, Songbird and the man were allowed to stay.
Truth be told, Songbird was the problem. While Dolly wasn’t around, Songbird would act on her nature to leech off the group. Steal so slowly that no one noticed. Her method of distraction was an uncanny ability to mimic others' voices and “throw” them. The rumors of “you said this” felt real, because to those around the corner, it sounded real. The walkers were Songbird creating natural noise to make walkers move in close. In retaliation for the first accusation made against her, she only made the group’s inner conflict worse. A part of Dolly knew that Songbird's appearance lined up too well with the disturbances, but she would never admit that.
Chorus
Songbird would eventually be photographed red handed by the same person who accused her the first time. In defense, she killed him and left the body to be discovered. Tired of rumors, not knowing who to trust, and now a murder, the group turned on itself. Fighting, fleeing and stealing began. The noise drew in a herd of walkers. In the midst of it all, Dolly found Songbird, hoping they’d flee together, but now that the group fell apart, Songbird had no more use for Dolly. The moment Dolly reached Songbird, her knee was shattered by a crowbar, immobilizing her. Songbird then left, and Dolly began to realize her part in all this.
At some point, Dolly’s body moves out of the chaos on its own, using adrenaline to push her through the pain. When that runs out, she can do nothing with the pain in her leg. The only thing she can do is create a makeshift crutch out of a stick.
