Profile
- Personality -
+ Observant: Foxrunner sees more than he lets on. Always watching others, memorizing their patterns and how they behave. All to know how to impress or act around them.
+ Non-Religious: This tom sees his separation from Starclan and any religious belief system as something positive. Thinking it gives him a non-biased view of events happening between the clans who try to use the starry ancestors as an excuse for their actions.
+ Loyal: Though his loyalty isn't to a group or a belief, Foxrunner is loyal to specific people who earn it. And when someone, like Rabbitwail, has earned this loyalty, he will be at their side until the end.
= Snarky: Sarcastic and Critical to anyone that isn't himself (or his closest friend). It makes Foxrunner a little hard to get along with if you don't understand his personality.
= Realistic: Even if he won't always speak it, the ginger tom is always keeping a more realistic mindset about the world. He doesn't dream big, but just big enough for himself in what he can reasonably accomplish.
= Irreverent: This cat doesn't take figures of authority seriously. Whether that be a leader, older cats, deputies, or even starclan itself. This can and has gotten him into trouble in the past. But he can't help it, after all, someone having control over him makes him nervous.
- Domineering: He enjoys control, having it over others or at least feeling like he's somehow pulling the strings.
- Insecure: Despite all of his false bravado and charisma, Foxrunner is actually very insecure in himself. It's why he's desperate for control and for cats to listen to/like him.
- Paranoid: Do people actually like him? Are others trying to take away what little he has? This paranoia is often what can be used against Foxrunner, to twist what little independence he has to force him to do another's bidding. At times, he wonders if Rabbitwail had done this to him to convince him to leave their home and, inevitably, join the Haven... but the thought never lasts long.
- Family -
Vulpisteeth: Ex-kittypet, Streamclan Senior Warrior. Has a very fox-like appearance. She's a vain cat and, on the outside, has a very cold relationship with her mate and son (when he was still in the clan), but she's actually rather warm in her own way.
Dovesprig: Streamclan Senior Warrior. A much softer, grey and white appearance, but has the same darker "tear" markings as his son. A more openly affectionate tom, but he still seems to have a cold relationship with his mate. The most they show others is the occasional time of sharing prey or grooming one another.
- History -
Prebirth:
It was quite a surprise to Streamclan when Dovesprig one day came into camp with kittypet. Despite her seemingly disdainful attitude, she was a hard worker. Picking up clan life without much complaint, and it seemed the usually soft-spoken Dovesprig was... smitten, with her. Bringing her prey, weaving flowers into her tail...
Kithood:
A single kit, Foxkit was quite the bully of the nursery. Especially those his age or younger, trying to implement himself the ringleader, or rather tyrant, of them all. And, well, his parents didn't do much to quell this. Vulpisteeth thought it was amusing to see him trying to take charge. Dovesprig at least tried tempering it down by reminding Foxkit that a clan has to work together as equals.
(Foxkit begins to develop an insecurity in himself and how others percieve him because while his parents did care and love him, their more distant behavior made him uncertain of that affection and their intentions.)
This didn't work too well since there was anther kit in particular, a smaller more squeaky thing, that Foxkit attached himself to: Rabbitkit. The bigger kit was often seen all but dragging the large-earred kit around the nursery and camp. Sometimes quite literally by the scruff as they got older. Despite protests and worries, Foxkit's parents didn't seem too worried about this behavior, as they, after talking to Foxkit about it one night, realized this was just his way of showing affection. That he dragged the other kit everywhere and bossed her around because they were too nervous to make any choices herself. At least, that's how it seemed to the kit, and their parents didn't seem to push further so he took it as an okay to continue this behavior.
Apprenticeship:
As Foxpaw, he was apprenticed to the warrior Tigerbite. And, well, he wasn't that impressed. He remembered the first-time mentor getting targeted by his brother, Lionbriar, when he was still a kit! He couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment at being paired with the tom, but he would grin and bear it... for now.
He certainly didn't care for how the warrior tried tempering his perceived bullying and aggression towards the other apprentices, specifically those who seemed to get too close to or try to bother Rabbitpaw. The young tom seemed to tell the other apprentice what to do. When to get up in the morning, where to meet their own mentor, even what prey to eat. It was always with a harsher tone, more bark than Foxpaw honestly meant to give, but he didn't know how to be soft. So used to distant parents who only gave him a seemingly condescending affectionate tone, he didn't want to be fake with his... friend? Yes, Rabbitpaw was a friend.
It was during this training time though that Foxpaw got to see what a more outwardly healthy relationship was like. Tigerbite and his mate were... soft, gentle even, without the grating falsity he felt from his parents (he still didn't believe that they were completely genuine with him).
Thus his attitude began to slightly shift. Just for Rabbitpaw. After the occasional physical dragging or chewing on the smaller apprentice, Foxpaw would then groom away any aches. His tone, while still firm, was no longer harsh. Softening into something more palletable.
The relationship with his parents became more strained as Vulpisteeth began trying to instill her standards of self-care onto him, as Foxpaw tended to keep a more "rugged" appearance with scraggy fur. The apprentice would insist he was fine and it ended up in an argument between the two. Dovesprig did step in... only to side with his mate, that Foxpaw needed to listen to her. This was towards the end of his apprenticeship, so the young tom was firm in stating that he didn't need either of them if they were going to seriously argue with him over how he decided to keep his fur of all things. The two warriors were taken aback, trying to backpedal and remedy the situation, but the young Foxpaw wouldn't have it and went back to the den.
(It is noted that Foxpaw's lack of faith mostly comes from his own sense of self. He doesn't like the idea of other things being in control of his fate or those around him, so he denounces the very idea of Starclan and the Dark Forest.)
Warriorhood:
The beginnings of Foxrunner's warriorhood was rather peaceful, in his mind. Named for his speed, the tom was often put on border patrols since, if there was trouble, he could swiftly get back to the camp to warn the clan and return to the patrol. However, he was rather insistent that he always be in a group with Rabbitwail. Often arguing with Fogstar or Redfox about it. This was the start of Foxrunner realizing he didn't have any real attachment to the clan itself, that he could look at the clan as a whole and notice that he didn't care about them. He cared about the individuals who gave him the respect he believed he deserved... and for him, that was Rabbitwail.
An unhealthy codependency of someone who needed to be led and someone who needed validation. The two were thick as thieves. Foxrunner would even humor the smaller warrior as they went on and on about Starclan and their worries, usually pulling them down from the scruff with a "If you keep starin' at them stars, yer gonna get moon-eyes."
Foxrunner, to his credit, did feel something when Fogstar passed away. She had been an okay leader in his eyes, given him his name after all. Redfox, now Redstar, as nervous she was, he felt like she could do an okay job at taking over. But man, he wondered if Tigerbite was pissed now that he hadn't made it deputy. After all, if he had, he could have been Tigerstar.
Yet, just over a cycle of seasons later, the war broke out. Lakeclan and Shallowclan going to war over some cat named Ashjump's weird Starclan cult... and, of course, Streamclan had to get involved. Foxrunner himself was only annoyed with the situation since it made more work and useless talk about the stars. But then Rabbitwail, those shakey ears and uncertain eyes.
They wanted to leave.
She couldn't handle the stress of so many cats turning on their own, she needed escape.
Foxrunner sighed softly, giving a rather neutral but disdainful look back to camp and the two left that evening.
Living on their own lasted longer than he expected. Around seven moons if he was keeping track correctly. They were doing fairly well, finding or making burrows in the roots of trees to sleep in. Hunting prey was a little tricky with just the two of them, but they made due. No, what started to get to them both was the lack of community. The lack of socialization outside of themselves. Though Foxrunner would never admit it, wanting to be strong for his smaller companion. But then they talked about it. Rabbitwail bringing up their desire to have something again, a group to call home and family. The larger tom pointed out that wouldn't be easy. They had abandoned their clan, and there was so much unrest in the territory that he was certain no one would accept a couple of cowards who fled at the first sign of major conflict (though, this was his own thoughts).
Yet there was on option still. One he was dreading that Rabbitwail seemed more inclined to: The Haven. The Starclan obsessed group, led now by none other than the cat who caused them to flee their home. Ashjump. Foxrunner could feel his fur wanting to bristle, but he kept it flat for Rabbitwail. She needed a group more than him, he would tell himself, but he didn't trust this "Streaking Comet" for a second. Not seeing how easily she twisted everyone around her paw with talks of prophecy and visions from the dead. How they seemed so conviently to line up with things that pushed agendas that would benefit her.
For now, he would stay, to protect Rabbitwail if nothing else. But the moment his friend was put in immediate danger, he would help the clans see this place burned down.
Maybe that's why she gave him that name, made him a warning.
For now he wasn't just Foxrunner, he was The Rain that Burns the Forest.
