Story
I. Blazing Star
Nebula Kato was born October 1st 1984. She proved to be a wild child, always willing to play and run around. Eternity and Masaki had problems keeping her under control, but they still love the ball of energy. Nebula’s wild nature was only made worse when her sister was born, she’d always wanted to play but she’d be told off because she always played too rough. Once Lyra became older, the girls were inseparable and would never do anything without the other, even if Lyra was significantly younger. This was until Nebula reached high school age and started the teenage rebellion phase of her life. She loved her parents but she was desperate for independence, and the people at school would only fuel this mindset. Nebula was popular and would surround herself with people that didn’t have the best intentions.
Spider in the Road
Nebula would grow close to a girl in her same grade. Taralyn was the girl’s name, she and Nebula would end up getting into a relationship that would soon spiral out of control. She’d get very possessive over Nebula, and her parents realized this started growing weary of Taralyn but Nebula wouldn’t listen. Taralyn would slowly turn her against her parents. Eventually, Taralyn, using her parent’s money, convinced Nebula to move in together and run away from their previous life. They moved in together and life would get harder for Nebula. Taralyn started getting more and more manipulative and sexual with Nebula; she wouldn’t allow her to talk to her family, she’d get violent and vindictive. A decent relationship turned abusive. Nebula finally got tired of her Taralyn’s bullshit, she finally broke up with her and moved out after only a year and a half of living together. It was scared to return to its parents for a little while, expecting some form of punishment to be waiting for it. To Nebula’s shock, its family welcomed them back with open arms and sympathy. After this, Nebula would work on saving money and looking forward to college. Excited to fulfill her dreams of being a fashion designer and model.
II. Shattered Dreams (2003)
Any ideal future was torn apart once they started showing up. The world was thrown into a crisis, lives and minds ripped away forcefully by some… creatures. In an effort to protect themselves, the Kato’s barricaded themselves in their family home. There, they would live off the food they already had and prepare methods of protection, just in case anyone or… anything tried to get in. Life could never be that easy, supplies would start running low and stress levels would increase. Together, the family had decided that they needed to leave and find food, that simply relying on what they had wasn’t enough. They would starve like this. Eternity and Masaki had to make a tough decision, much to Nebula and Lyra’s dismay. They asked that their children leave them behind. They were getting old and Masaki’s joints weren’t as they were in the past. They’d only slow them down. Nebula begged them to come along, that she would be able to do everything, but Masaki turned that down. All they asked was for Nebula to promise them that she’ll keep Lyra safe, no matter what. Nebula made the promise and, with a heavy heart, left its past behind.
Misfourtune (2003-2006)
After abandoning their childhood home, the sisters would travel across the country by foot and vehicle. They would come across many different people but they’d never actually stick around, that was until Lyra managed to befriend a girl named Vivienne. Vivienne would eventually tell the two about a small community she was a part of. Lyra convinced Nebula to join it, claiming that maybe they'll be more secure there and that they’ll have more people to talk to. The community gave the siblings something stable, they could sleep easier now and had more survivors to interact with. Nebula was happy watching Lyra and Vivienne grow closer, watching the young relationship bloom. But misfortune would strike again. While Nebula, Lyra and Vivienne were searching for food, they ran into the lost. Too many walkers. They weren’t a problem for Nebula, who would take down many of the lost. Trapped in a daze, it was unable to snap out of its spree until they heard a scream. Lyra had saved Nebula’s ass again but the cost… Vivienne had been bit. The sisters dealt with the rest of the lost before shifting their focus to Vivienne, she voiced her fear of turning to Lyra. As upset as the young musician was, Lyra proposed killing Vivienne so she didn’t turn. The other young girl agreed. Vivienne would ask Lyra to do it, Nebula told her that she didn’t have to. Lyra, knowing who her girlfriend would want, agrees to just shoot her. The sisters return to the community, having to tell them the grim news. All the trust previously put into the two vanishes, they all blame the two for the loss. Nebula gets called crazy and a traitor, this sets her off, triggering a scuffle. Lyra begged her sister to stand down but she just wouldn’t listen. The fight only ended when one member of the community landed a good hit to Nebula’s right eye, stunning her. At this point, Lyra was able to calm her sister down, the two were told to leave and that if they were to return, they’d kill them on the spot.
Injury (2006-2007)
The sisters only had each other again. Once they got a good distance away from the community, Lyra tended to Nebula’s injury. Unfortunately, the older girl’s eye couldn’t be salvaged, Lyra had to take it out herself with the supplies she was left with.
Tug of War (2007)
After the conflict with the community, the two would travel on foot. The girls were always there for each other, Lyra giving Nebula away needed medical attention and Nebula there to help Lyra through breakdowns. Life would go on like this until the two ran into a group of bandits, they demanded supplies from the sisters. Nebula would refuse, triggering a fight to break out, one that the fighter should’ve won. But, like some fucked up comedy, Nebula would get tripped up and sent down a hill, hitting her head on a rock. The last thing Nebula would see before fainting was Lyra’s terrified face as she was getting taken.
Determination (2007-2011)
Nebula would wake back up with only one goal on her mind. Finding her sister alive.
