Crystral Dragonborn / Fighter (Lvl. 9 - Battlemaster) Paladin (Lvl. 3 - Oath of the Ancients) / Sailor
30 years old / she/her
Growing up in a communal Gem Dragonborn community, tales by the fireside were a common occurrence in Galena’s youth. Enraptured by the many tales her kin told across many late nights, she always wanted to be a librarian to drink in more of such stories and become the caretaker and keeper of the history and knowledge. One day, it dawned on her that she herself could become the subject of these stories. She could live a life that would be worth recording in dusty books for generations of dragonborn to come.
She set off to find such purpose of her own, and never looked back. Choosing to join the Marines at a young age, she became an expert in navigating the seas by charting the stars. Her crew was her new kin - and she fought and protected them fiercely… until she couldn’t. A single wrongly placed dot in the latitude logs meant they were thrown into the heart of a tempest at sea. She battled at the helm as long as she could, but the cruel sea dragged them all down.
It was a deafening quiet in the deep. Something rose from the depths, slinking between the falling debris, and she watched the bodies of her crew disappear seamlessly into the belly of the beast. Sea Serpent? Leviathan? Whatever it was, she braced herself - she would die a nobody. But after what seemed like an eternity, she opened her eyes. Face to face with the beast - her entire being dwarfed by its one scrutinizing eye. She felt its guttural growl pulse through her bones. And then, it was gone. She could, once again, chart her own course.
Washing up on the shores of Baldur’s Gate, she soon found herself accidentally bonding with a band of misfits with equally cryptic pasts. Once preferring long-range archery at sea, she quickly found herself thrust more and more into the thick of combat in Baldur’s Gate, and began to thrive in the role of a Sentinel as a tank for the others, vowing to never again be responsible for the death of anyone under her care. To that end, she has accepted her reluctant role as party face, and according to Phoenix, the “moral compass”. Her weapon of choice is a glaive with an inlaid moonstone complementing her crystal colours.
And then came hell, a completely different beast. The chaos of Avernus threw her for a loop initially, as she scrambled to find her footing in uncharted and uncharitable territory. Until… coming upon the tomb of the Unknown Hero, and the temple of Lathander in Elturel, she felt a pull from within. A growing ball of light appeared, that now bounces around within her and emits a warm glow that sparkles through her crystal and diffuses everywhere (yes, like a bouncing DVD screensaver). When her party member Xedrian gifted her with a Golden Longbow that was bestowed upon him by his god, Tyton, as a gesture of faith in her new abilities while reminding her of her roots - the ball of light became steadily brighter, even amidst what she once thought was a godforsaken land.
While she still hasn’t found her Oath, she feels called to seek Enlightenment from some type of higher being, and has started to believe that maybe there is a bigger reason then her own choices that she has ended up in Avernus (dare she admit, some type of fate?)
From being the designated driver of the Demon Grinder, to slaying and smiting devils and ward lords, to gently laying hands on party members in their most dire moments to bring then up for one more swing or one more spell - one thing’s for sure, they’re getting out of Avernus all together, or Galena’s going to die trying.
