Whether Maritide has enough of a regional variation to "qualify" in the way that other species do, has been a subject of debate in many regions around the Median Sea.
It seems that some Maritide evolve to have a sleek build, which promotes higher swimming speed through the open seas - whereas Maritide with stockier, sturdier builds have evolved to support easier propulsion along the banks of rivers.
