PERSONALITY
Degner is the hound that seeks out dependence on others and others' potential dependence on him. You practically wouldn't see him alone, one way or another. Not having anyone around to listen to his babble is especially upsetting to him. He also gets incredibly excited about making contracts with anyone, about anything, as long as that means real solid proof of promises being made and serious things happening. He says that makes him feel stable, confident and important.
Degner is firmly grounded in the physical reality and yet seems completely far from it. He has zero imagination or thinking outside his box, but his own box is incredibly peculiar. He tends to break into long rants that seem to repeat the same couple of basic ideas, but in such a complicated and long-winded manner that only he seems to understand the point of it. He exudes the power of a motivational speaker even when that's not the appropriate tone of the conversation. You may not have a single clue what he's trying to tell you, but you do feel incredibly inspired and a bit scared, so something gets done, whether it's what he wanted or not.
He's very straight-forward, stubborn and committed to fulfilling anything he considers his duty, and nothing can change his mind, not even rational arguments or new circumstances. It might be easy to take him by surprise and pull the rug from under his feet, but by god he will sit on that rugless floor. Degner's actually considered a figure of great respect in corporate communities and is brought up as an example of a perfect goal-focused business person, despite being quite an out of touch weird old man. The good news is though, if he appreciates you as a partner or worker, he's ready to die for you.
