[the original Miranda concept, before social justice warriors pissed me off]
Miranda was raised by her two mothers — Mama Yolie and Mama Flo — who were high school sweethearts. Mama Flo — Florence Fousend — was greatly admired by an attractive man on her high school football team, who claimed to be polyamorous and asked to date the two girls. When they were caught, the boy — who Mama Flo refuses to name, ever, on penalty of death — claimed that Yolie and Flo were both madly in love with him. Oh, free love had some hall passes for the era; still, the boy was treated like a king for getting laid with two girls at once, and Yolie and Flo found themselves mocked and pregnant. Mama Yolie suffered a miscarriage, but Mama Flo gave birth to their one and only daughter: Miranda Fousend.
With this sort of backstory, Miranda grew up with two great obsessions — avoiding men and clinging to her dignity like the most impeccable of ladies, just like her Mama Flo. Even when the two of them were raped and killed in a fit of hate-induced violence while at a rally, she refused to give up her dignity and mourned her departed mothers quietly.
