In the not so distant year of 2032, the city of Mistfall has been taken over by an evil vampire overlord, a being known as The Dark One. This creature rules with an iron fist, and regularly slaughters humans for the fun of it. The lands were constantly beset with rainfall, having been summoned by the vampire. Nothing could grow. The people were cut off from surrounding cities by a large wall that stretched into the atmosphere. There was no escaping, The Dark One would know. They seemed to have some sort of omniscience they used to keep the people in line, appearing before them whenever they were doing something they disliked, and making an example of the people. The people didn't even have a way to fight back, as all wood, silver, and garlic had been banned, confiscated, and destroyed. The Dark One taxed the people once a month, for their entire lives after they turned 10. The people were forced to let The Dark One drink from them, or suffer worse consequences. The Dark One turned the city into their personal playground, a place where all sort of steampowered creations dotted the city in ways that were twisted and made little sense. The people were at their mercy.

Theo spent much of their childhood playing with the gears and cogs that were scattered around the city. The Dark One took notice, and offered to let them have supplies, and thus Theo became The Dark One's protégé.

Their parents took notice of this. They took notice of the similar face shape, and the uncomfortable similarities of interest, and knew something terrible was wrong with their daughter. They kicked Theo out when they came out as nonbinary, just one step closer to being the vampire that subjugated the city.

Theo spent several years on the streets, where they were helped by the much younger Sparrow. Sparrow kept watch over Theo and made sure they were safe and fed, or as fed as they could be when the entire city was kept purposefully starving. The two got very close, but one day, she stopped showing up to see them. Theo nearly starved to death without her help. But they didn't.

A guy named Jay, roughly around their same age, took them in to his apartment. He nursed them back to health, and before the two knew it, they were in love. They spent a few years together, but it wasn't ever going to last forever.

It turned out, Jay wasn't just a scrapper as he said he was. He was actually the leader of a large scale rebellion that was fighting against The Dark One. His organization had been creating food storehouses and figuring out ways of making crops grow in abandoned warehouses. But, one of the warehouses was found. And with it, a large chunk of the rebellion members were taken out. An even larger chunk quit once they heard the news, returning to their somewhat safer lives. It was only Jay, and two other members left. Sparrow, who had joined after seeing Theo for the final time, and an older man named Heath.

The three held a meeting, and decided that they had one final shot, and would either save the city, or die trying. Jay had found the wood to create a stake years ago, and he kept it safe. He also had found enough scraps of silver for the three to have rudimentary armor. With that all, they decided they had enough to try it out.

Theo in the meantime, had noticed how stressed Jay was, and decided to put their knowledge to use. They experimented for many months and had managed to get a time traveling pocketwatch nearly completed. They tried telling Jay while they celebrated Theo's birthday, but Jay asked them to wait. He was scared he wouldn't come back if he knew. Of course, he didn't tell Theo this. Theo knew nothing of his occupation.

Three days after Theo's birthday, the three finally made their way towards The Dark One's lair, a sprawling castle in the middle of the city. But they were stopped on the way. The Dark One was waiting for them, illuminated under a single lamp post.

The three were shocked, but assumed battle position. However, many versions of The Dark One poured in, and quickly overpowered the three. Jay and Sparrow died quickly. Heath managed to get away with the stake. Theo saw everything from the window that sat in front of their workstation.

They ran to the scene, only to be met with The Dark One, who taunted them, and called them their protégé once more, a term they hadn't been called since a child. Their grief sharpened into anger and hatred immediately. They stormed away, only to be found by Heath, who explained things to Theo. He gave them Jay's stake, and asked them to be safe.

They quickly formulated a plan. The Dark One would die one way or another. They were going to go back in time and stop The Dark One from rising to power. But first, they needed a disguise. They ran into a local Spirit Halloween, a remnant of bygone days, and changed their outfit to that of a more steampunk style, hoping to fit in in 1832. They changed their name too, deciding to call themself Theodore so as to not arouse suspicion.

They traveled back, only to be faced with the sun, something they had never seen before. They spent the first few days being paranoid. They knew there were vampires in Mistfall. One of them had to have turned The Dark One, and they wanted to kill any vampires they saw to prevent this.

They accused people left and right. The worse offense was of accusing Loanne, a simple noble lady, down on her luck, who just so happened to have a rare form of albinism.

Other people that inhabited Mistfall include:

- Agate: the local priestess, though her abilities make it doubtful that she is just a priestess, and not someone who's dealt with vampires before.

- Riley: a peaceful gardener that's been in Mistfall for 2 weeks now after they got separated from their father following being forced to leave their home in Bellcrest.

- Caine; a hunter of animals that has some serious stuff mentally going on. Frequently ends up waking up on roofs and often mumbles to himself. He had arrived around the time Riley did, but went to the forest to hunt right as everyone was showing up, and got lost for several weeks.

- Victor Pembrook: an author who's books have been in circulation for a lot longer than his appearance would suggest. Of course, Theodore has no idea of this, as all books had been used in the future to create fires to keep the people warm with the lack of sun.

- Len: an apparent anmesiac that's terrified of vampires. Wears a mask over half of their face.

- Silly McSinister: a cannibalistic clown that wandered in after eating their jester lover.

- Penelope: a vain noble who only seems to care about gems and jewelery. Frequently makes fun of the other members of town.

- Florence: a really young and malnourished looking girl (she is still an adult) that's been trapped in the mines since she was 6 years old.

- Dhirhan: a flamboyant wizard who actually lacks any sort of magic. He can make potions however.

- Avery: was stuck wandering the forest for several weeks when first arriving. They have uncomfortably bright eyes, and seem to follow the orders of Victor, Flor, and Silly. Rebuilt much of the castle.

- Percival, or Jester Giggles: showed up many weeks after everyone got trapped somehow. He is Silly's jester lover, that Silly actually DIDN'T eat, but hallucinate that it did.

WILL WRITE UP MORE LATER BUT THERES SHIT TONS OF LORE FOR THIS GUY AND IM TIRED LOL
