Selfish, egotistical, and manipulative, Chivepool would easily sacrifice somebody's needs for her own gain. That being said, her less than sociable behavior is something of a front to mask deep insecurities. Chivepool considers herself to be both the most important in the room at any moment while also being the worst person in the room, essentially making herself a walking contradiction.
She can put on a front of politeness and courtesy but because it's mostly for appearances' sake it can easily come across as condescending. It's hard to tell if she means to be condescending on purpose or just doesn't realize she comes across that way.
If she were to just be honest about her insecurities and failings, perhaps she'd have an easier time getting close to people...or letting people get close to her.

Chivepool thrives on being able to hold somebody's attention and keep a grasp on a given situation. If she loses agency, she loses the one thing she feels like she can use for leverage over a person. No control means not being taken seriously, and she will either lash out or shut down in response, depending on the circumstance.
