joe "joey" mcguy. age 25, current year:1983
Enfp, chaotic good, extremely average and basic looking, looks like the default for a human being. Joey is a cultist that comes from a cult that encourages looking on the bright side to everything and being happy.
He also has anxiety.
Traits: caring, honest, optimistic, joyful, perverted (in a cool and consensual way, just not used to seeing anything below the knee and bare shoulders because of his cult, who prefer covering up), impatient, emotionally intelligent, hard working, clumsy, altruistic, oblivious sometimes, nervous, temperamental, average
likes: learning!!!! New experiences!!!! Friends!!!!! Helping!!!!! Older women????? Discovered he likes men????????? Deep conversations, quality time, world history, family, city life, daydreaming, love.
Hates: being left out, letting friends down, helplessness, being underestimated, crying, nausea, being lied to, hurting people, embarrassing himself, feeling an uncontrollable amount of rage and being detached from himself in that way.
Joey was born in a cult in the forest. It preaches happiness and how to practice it even during your worst moments. Joey McGuy is a very happy guy and though he's an outcast for being maybe TOO excitable and slightly annoying (hes unaware of this but he knows hes being avoided), he's seen as one of the most loyal to the cult. Because of this, when hes 25 (the age the brain fully develops), he is sent to report on city life and come back and fill the cult in on worldwide events and occurances monthly. This excites joey because he's been obsessed with history, with the outside world and learning whats beyond the forest. Joey also feels lost in his own identity, he's unaware of morals beyond hurting people is bad so he wants to develop his person further. So he goes and gets into some hijinks and WOW that lady is showing her waist! Frisky! Eventually he lands himself as an intern in a public detective agency where he grabs everybodys coffee and then spills it on them the moment its handed.
Long story short, he is eventually recruited into a PRIVATE detective agency with a hacker, a lawyer, an out of drag drag queen (who serves as the groups medic), and a detective, their leader. He's the groups muscle and helping hand and he's excited to work with everyone! they all playing mind games with eachother I think thats why joey is so refreshing NOT BECAUSE he cant think BUT BECAUSE HE'S WHAT THEY ALL UNCONSCIOUSLY WANT, AUTHENTICITY, hes the most genuine out of all of them, sure he may get a bit angry and keep it shut but it always comes out eventually, like a normal healthy amount of amount of "keep it to myself", he speaks his mind, hes angry, hes honest even when it gets him hurt, its not that he cant manipulate, he just cant see why he would need to, like LOGICALLY, and i do mean LOGICALLY, it doesnt make sense for joey. joey, though the least smart intellectually, i believe to be the smartest EMOTIONALLY out of them. I think that further solidifies why joey, though an intern, though constantly seeking to learn from others, is someone the group NEEDS to learn from THE WAY JOEY HAS BEEN LEARNING FROM THEM THIS WHOLE TIME.Joey also struggles with finding a certain identity. Everyone has their own jobs and hobbies and dreams, joey is just living in the world enjoying little things. He has a hard time figuring out who he is and a hard time conforming to anything. He is very free spirited though and likes reading books about anything while climbing up a tree. Uhh joey is the type of person to accept change to not be left behind, which is fine because he's a blank slate, what DOES he even want? He struggles with inadequacy. He wants to be more. Joey sees the group get along and he's happy for them but they're all smarter than him, more witty, and he can't seem to connect sometimes. He's worried that no matter how helpful he is and how happy he can get, a connection wont form. Putting it this way: IMAGINE FEELING LOST AS A PERSON, TRYING TO FORCE YOUR WAY INTO BELONGING TO A FOUND FAMILY WHERE YOU HAVE TO EARN THEIR RESPECT, BUT EVERYONE UNDERESTIMATES YOU AS NAIVE AND STUPID, SO NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE A MEANINGFUL PERCEPTION OF YOU, WORST PART IS ITS NOT OUT OF MALICE , YOU HAVE NO IDENTITY TO BOUNCE OFF OF, THE MOST YOU DO IS HELP OTHERS, YOU THINK YOUR MOST HUMAN TRAITS ARE BASIC, EVEN WHEN YOU TRY TO RECOGNIZE THAT YOURE GOOD AND THATS ALL YOU REALLY WANT YET YOU STILL HATE YOURSELF, BECAUSE THEY CANT EVEN HATE YOU, YOURE INVISIBLE EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A TOY, WHO EVEN ARE YOU, DO YOU EVEN HAVE A PERSONALITY.but joey the reason he’s been tweaking out is because he’s going to 😅abandonthem he’s been fighting his need to leave but he can’t HANDLE ANY OF THIS the situation is overwhelming for a NUMBER OF REASONS, i really do mean a number, not just about yumiko. regardless he’s conceded into the fact that he’s weak and a horrible friend for trying to run away and maybe by accepting that fact he can take comfort that by leaving they won’t be losing anything valuablethe melting at the end is not literal it’s just how he feels he’s disgusted with himself and is spiraling into a panic of anxiety self hatred and repulsion, I mean he has no support system (rivaans too busy helping marty and his words are superficial, marty is marty) he’s grieving, Miguel just disappeared without warning, but his good friends still have the strength to wake up and overcome the guilt in their stomachs. their restless focus on yumiko, in return, makes him sick for being so useless and thinking about himselfand like I said, under cult terms, should you experience an overwhelming about of hate that your body cannot handle, you will melt and be glad that at least in your pitiful existence, you at least gave back nutrients into the earth, you did something positive to counteract your destructive tendencies, joey is on the verge of it alljoey doesn’t show up for hours, soon rivaan finds an envelope which Marty snatches, reads, and rivaan bolts for the door with marty trailing behind only to find a soda can by the welcome mat.
Also i think he represents humility at his best.
Also in the future (20 years later), joey will become more anxious yet cold and will have paranoia, depression, OCD, and just miserable in general. He tries to keep his same values but Marty, after siding with miguel the guy that left them and knowing who killed yumiko and never told them, is making him constantly infuriated and all he wants to do is inflict his own sense of justice, punishing marty by making him felt what he has felt for the past 20 years.
