Father a cunning fox, mother an ensnared rabbit. Feared by prey, but preyed upon by predators. She's tired.
Lyla has been in the jaws of predators before, abused in cycles. She's gotten quite good at getting away and running like the rabbit she is, but that doesn't mean she hasn't come out of each trap cleanly. She was once stalked relentlessly by a vicious mountain cat that got her to lower her defenses over a period that lasted much too long. He held his own life over her, claiming that he'd do something drastic if Lyla left. She managed to escape - or, so she thought - but the cat continued to find her at every turn, striking at her with his claws and hissing virulent threats. The cat lied and spat at her, claiming that she was the one who'd hurt him, but Lyla knew well and good that she'd be so much better away from him.
She knows better now not to lower her defenses, lest that wretched stalker find her again; the next time he comes back, she swears she'll take drastic measures to keep him away for good. Call it mutually assured destruction, in a way; if she has to go down, she'll take him down with her.
