Freed from corruption by Cloak and Dagger, Darwin now walks a path of redemption as Mindshaper, using psionic and mystic arts to heal allies, stabilize minds, and confront threats that fracture the world

Early Life

Darwin Daalwick wasn’t always a mystic or a runaway. He was once the golden boy of his high school, Midtown School of Science and Technology, as a star soccer player with a loud laugh, natural charm, and a future lined with scholarships and college scouts. But as his psychic mutation grew, so did his anxiety. Stray thoughts crashed into his mind during games, emotional feedback spiraled him into panic, and the pressure to perform only made his powers flare harder.

Mistakes on the field became frightening episodes.
Teammates grew wary.
Coaches benched him.
Rumors spread.

When he was finally kicked off the team and his academic performance collapsed, Darwin dropped out entirely, convinced he was losing his mind. Alone and ashamed, he ran away on his 18th birthday.

The Mind Stone Fragment

When Wanda Maximoff shattered the Mind Stone in the Earth-19999, microscopic fragments drifted across alternate realities.
One such fragment found Darwin on Earth-3113, bonding with his mutant consciousness and amplifying his psionic gifts beyond anything he’d ever imagined.
The sudden influx of power overwhelmed him with visions, voices, and new abilities until Darwin could barely tell where he ended and others began.

Kamar-Taj & the Mystic Path

Doctor Strange, sensing the Mind Stone’s energy and Darwin’s unstable aura, tracked him down to offer guidance. Darwin trained at Kamar-Taj, learning grounding techniques, astral projection, and control over his fractured psyche.

While he made progress in the mystic arts, his natural jocky arrogance and skill made him cocky, however his emotions remained volatile. He oscillated between profound clarity and spirals of doubt, proud of his power but frightened by its potential.

The Darkhold’s Corruption

Darwin’s vulnerability attracted the attention of the Darkhold. Seduced by its whispers of understanding, control, and empowerment, he turned to it in secret, convinced he could master its pages where others had failed.

Instead, the tome twisted him.

Its magic warped his thoughts and body, turning his intellect into a weapon of vengeance. Darwin, now leaning into the name Mindshaper, lashed out at New York in an attempt to “correct” the world that had rejected mutants. Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen - Cloak and Dagger - intervened, cutting through the Darkhold’s influence with their contrasting powers of darkness and light.
Freed from the tome’s control, Darwin was left mentally shattered but emotionally lucid for the first time in years.

He vowed never again to let his inner darkness endanger the innocent. Instead, Mindshaper embraced a new path: using his psionic gifts to heal.

Difficulty ★★★☆☆

A calm but conflicted psionic prodigy, Mindshaper channels the brilliance of the Mind Stone and the shadows of the Darkhold to guide - or devastate - the battlefield. He heals allies with astral finesse and unleashes eldritch fury on those who threaten the balance he’s sworn to protect.
