At least, that's her dream. Reality is, Laiken is a mercenary who makes a living fighting back evil space pirates and empires and mad scientists etc etc. She has a strong moral fiber which keeps her from doing less savory/illegal work where she can. Unfortunately, being good isn't quite as profitable, so most of her gear is hand-me-down or off-market ("retro," as she'll proudly tell you). Despite the tech disadvantage, Laiken has a pretty stellar track record and lives quite comfortably, dreaming of the day her name's known across the cosmos.
