Windpaw was born to simple and modest warriors parents, with two older sisters. She played with the other kittens, even though they found her a little strange.
- Before becoming a warrior apprentice-
Before becoming a warrior apprentice, Windpaw was a medicine cat apprentice. She gave up that role at the age of seven moons because it was hard to remember all the herbs and remedies… even though the training, hunts, and chores of warrior apprentices didn’t exactly thrill her either. She had to tell her mentor, Sweetglimmer (who was very good company), and her leader, Bird-of-Prey. The young leader decided to become her mentor, a decision Windpaw would later bitterly regret.
Bird-of-Prey isn't necessarily mean—on the contrary, she's actually quite gentle and calm—but she often comes across as impatient and irritable, especially during combat training sessions. That's because Windpaw is slow and cautious, for fear of falling and/or hurting her mentor. Hunting patrols, on the other hand, are strange… More often than not, her mentor spends a long time telling her stories about the Clans, her life, and her opinions rather than teaching her how to hunt. Windpaw is surprised to find herself enjoying these moments of calm and listening, but she’d also like to improve those skills; otherwise, she’ll make a poor warrior.
The young apprentice has also made a good friend in the Shadowclan: Coalpaws. He’s a kind apprentice who’s about the same age as Windpaw, and they enjoy catching up on each other’s lives and talking about “politics” during the Clans' Assemblies. They never see each other outside of that and have never tried to.
