Personality

Though distrustful, Delphinium has a deep love of meeting new people and seeing new things. Even if it's something of a love-hate relationship, since she becomes frustrated with her own urges to explore new and dangerous places since she doesn't think anything truly safe. She struggles often with herself in what is really worth putting herself in danger for. For now, she insists she must keep wandering in an effort to find somewhere she can and will be safe to hide away, far from mortals, far from fey, and left alone. However, it might just be an excuse to keep wandering... for every place she finds that might suit she decides isn't worth it.

The fey are still following her, trying to bring her back, but she only becomes more angry with their shadowing and seeks more strongly to avoid them. She sees them as manipulating her for their own selfish desires and it appalls her. She wants to be able to make her choice on her own because it was what she wanted, not what they forced upon her.

Wren still accompanies her, a brother figure and feyfolk who she grew up with and the only one of them she can truly trust. He knew nothing of their conspiracy, and is filled with an earnest desire to keep her safe that she appreciates. She travels with him only grudgingly, for she's come to understand that he's grown dependent on her and his task in protecting her. She often feels suffocated by him, and though she cares for him dearly as a companion she recognizes that they are no longer royalty, he can no longer protect her, and he's equally in charge of finding his own fate.

Despite her efforts to blend in, she often comes across as bizarre among the mortal realm where she now finds herself. She has odd mannerisms and habits, little understanding of human etiquette and figures of speech, and she has to stay in sight of some sort of nature at most times, else she may panic and become angry. She hides her wings under a thick cloak she wears, and does her best to avoid using her magic for fear of exposing herself, though it is a hard habit to break after relying on it for so long.

Trivia

  • She has a noticable irish-similar accent.
  • She is fascinated with mortal technology and doesn't understand why they want magic when they've created their own magic of an even greater sort that they can't even realize.
  • Master of nature magic, manipulating plant life, asking the trees for aid, and speaking to animal life. If she is confined somewhere away from nature, she's rendered powerless if her calls can't be heard. She usually will fight to avoid it/refuse to place herself in this situation.
  • In a pinch she can utilize some fire magic, but she finds it destructive and easy to lose control of and has some fear of it.
  • She struggles/has no ability to utilize water magic, however. She doesn't have the inner peace capable of maintaining it. If confronted with danger near a river or ocean, she'd be more likely to speak to the animal life, or use the seaweed/river plants to her aid than the water.
History

Delphinium grew up in luxury from her youth, raised to be a queen of feyfolk and faeries, she was surrounded by elegance, nature, and peace through her childhood. Growing up, she was told that her parents were taken by the horrible mortals who capture feyfolk to squeeze every ounce of magic from them to stave off the perceived waning magic of the realm. Her easy life was soon complicated when she was thrown into the role of being a queen, forced to take care of her people among rising tensions with the mortal folk.

She pursued this with vigor, bitter and angry over how the fey were treated, of these mortals who took her parents and family from her, of these intrusions to her world that felt so right and calm before. As a result of her ruined perceptions, she became steadily more paranoid and distrustful of others she did not know, and began to attack or threaten humans who came to her forest, whether their intentions were just or not. She has strong issues with being decisive/commitments. She second guesses herself a lot and many consider her to be extremely over-cautious, even if she may have good reasons

Despite being nonassuming, she is very capable of being a threat and defending herself, for she has mastered powerful nature magic.

In truth, she's sad, feels incapable of protecting her people and has suffering confidence because she was placed in a leadership role too young and she never had a real childhood or chance to learn what she should do. Her emotions became more spontaneous and potentially dangerous spurred by her adolescent lack of experience and inappropriate reflex responses to vengeance and immaturity.

She was strongly convinced for a very long time that relations between mortals and fey were impossible, that fey must defend themselves and they would never understand nor respect them. Though she loved her home and nature, she harbors a deep curiosity and fascination with cities and the 'normal' world, a fascination that equally frustrates her because if she had it her way she'd see them as disgusting and want to see them burn for hurting those dear to her.

With waning magical power in her world, her peoples abilities are more sought after-most frequently in aggressive ways because there is a stigma that faeries are mischievous and evil, though in truth they are truly just defending themselves or trying to earn revenge for misdeeds done towards them.

Things change and her world is shattered when she learns she herself was replaced with a changeling, and is a mortal. She learns her feyfolk people stole her from her life to force her into being their leader in an effort to use the mortals own physical prowess and weapons against them. She was trained in magic at a young age (which all mortals are capable of, but unaware how), and never had a reason to doubt her origins, and as may be expected such a realization drives her to fury and she abandons her 'people' to flee to the mortals, for to her- those she never knew couldn't possibly hurt her more than those who betrayed her her entire life.

She looks soft and gentle, but can quickly turn vicious when cornered. She doesn't like those who pry, and struggles with not knowing who or what she can really trust anymore. She is kind, and generous, and will certainly make efforts to help those who are in need, but she avoids getting attached to others for fear they'll fool her with a false paradise  and fake friendships again.

She has deep conflict within herself in whether or not she truly has love for her people and wants to keep them safe. She likes to imagine she should, but it's become something that isn't her war and her attachment and desire to live among the mortals grows stronger. She carries with her a power that could destroy her people forever, or save her betrayers through teaching the mortals to form a bridge of understanding. Still young, she has yet to decide which she will follow.

When she left, her only safety and accompaniment was her most loyal knight and dear friend Wren, who struggles to convince her that their people had their reasons and she should do whats right. Convincing her of what is right is the problem, since he's starting to question it himself.
