Personality

A capable old woman who doesn't feel satisfied with her day unless she's worked up a sweat. Aggie, as she's known to her friends, truly enjoys a hard day's work more than anyone her age rightfully should. Her passionate, hard-working nature often sees her neglect her own limitations and work to the point of exhaustion however, something that frequently causes her son to worry.

Her limits aren't exactly small though, as she boasts enormous physical strength despite her age and small build, to the constant shock of those around her, though she's oblivious as to the absurdity of it. As one might expect, she's prone to rambling off about the nostalgic old days of her youth, particularly about her late husband who she still mourns and works hard to do proud.

Misc.

  • Her favourite colour is the red of her ruby earrings, given to her by her late husband.
  • Her favourite food is fresh eggs sunnyside up.

Background

Agnes, an old-fashioned gal, married her husband Mervin when she was just 19. The pair were Marigold's resident farmers, supplying the town directly with fresh vegetables, meat, eggs, etc. The two were a hard-working and dependable pair, handling all the duties of the farm between themselves for two decades. This kept them both so busy that they didn't really have time to even think about starting a family together, that is until, well into their 40s, their son Cedar was born to the couple.

Some years later, as their son reached adolescence, Mervin's health began to decline due to age. Agnes began working harder and harder to make up for the things her husband was losing the capability to do, and Cedar eagerly put in his fair share as well. Eventually however, Mervin passed away, leaving Agnes and their son to mourn. Initially, she struggled to find time to grieve appropriately while trying to keep up with the farm work. Cedar dropped out of school in order to help her, only making her feel worse with guilt, believing she was taking opportunities away from her only son.

However, some months after Mervin's passing, the day that would've been the couple's 40th anniversary arrived, and Agnes was surprised to find a pair of ruby earrings he had left for her as a gift before he passed. With these, Aggie was able to finally grieve and accept her new reality, being more motivated to carry on her late husband's legacy on the farm responsibly.

Synopsis

After a couple more years, the workload stabilised, and Agnes was confident enough in her ability to demand Cedar go back to school. She was happy to compromise that he do so while assisting her outside of school hours. Aggie continues to run the farm efficently, eager to do the memory of her husband proud.

Cedar

Agnes's son is very anxious when it comes to her health, often fretting over her continuing work efforts. She raised him well and he has great respect for her, but since the passing of her husband, the boy's felt very uneasy and worries that having Agnes handle everything on her own will drive her to the grave as well. Cedar frequently irritates Agnes by pushing to take work off her hands and into his own, encouraging her to rest and relax. Although he gets on her nerves in this regard, leading to some scolding and discipline when she's had enough, Agnes does appreciate what her son is trying to do for her and just wishes he wouldn't be so anxious about her and live a little more selfishly. She is completely unaware of Cedar's twisted fantasies, which makes her encouragement to follow his own dreams a little problematic...
