Dax [pron: DAKS] is an amateur MMA fighter and the older half-brother of Rory. He works at the popular Fan Palm Theater as a ticketer/concessions clerk and performs in tournaments around the San Diego area. He lives alone in an apartment tucked away in east San Luis.
He acts like a complete bro, unabashedly acting out and being ambiguously flirty while helping others in a pinch without a second thought. Even though he's surprisingly friendly and approachable, he's also quite distant and has a hard time showing emotions. Sometimes he'll even look away or try to hide when he's really happy or excited, and he gets embarrrassed when you point it out. He has a hard time trusting people, especially older folks, and is kinda paranoid at times, thinking his dad might be looking for him or that someone is out to hurt him.

When he was barely a year old, his dad had an affair with another woman down from Ngorivo. It was a secret until four years later when the woman, frustrated with managing her life and a child all alone, tried to track him down. Thinking his wife was his sister from their shared surname, she called asking where to find her son's father and that she had an earful to give. This, of course, broke out into an argument, and a disastrous breakup soon after. In shambles, Dax's father decided to move to Ngorivo on the condition that he could keep Dax, which led to the boy staying south during school and heading north during summer and holidays.
Upon seeing Rory, however, Dax hated him. He saw Rory as the reason why he couldn't see his mom and had to move across the country to a hot and dirty home. In the desert, the house was constantly tense as his dad grew abusive. Full of anger, regret, and beer, he physically and mentally took it out on his kids and girlfriend. Even though he hated Rory, Dax ended up sticking up for his half-brother, now realizing that they're suffering together and only they could provide relief for eachother.
Dax had to learn how to protect himself at home and at school, since in high school he was fearlessly out as gay. Or, at least he was after a thought-to-be friend outed him. He joined his school's wrestling team as something to do, hoping it'd help shed some weight and help him kick ass. It helped as a stress relief, but a lot of boys were hesitant to wrestle Dax because he was gay.
After he turned 17, Dax dropped out of school and ran away from home, stealing his dad's truck before abandoning it outside of the rez. He thought that since he was turning 18 soon anyway, he might as well gain his independence faster, away from his shitty home. His parents filed a runaway, but the police weren't too invested to look for a runaway, let alone a kid from the rez. To them, it wasn't their problem. Surviving on his own was harder than he expected, but he found help staying with his friends sometimes, and was confronted by his first wrestling coach that had retired who decided to let him stay with him, later helping him get his apartment and work on his MMA skills.
As an adult, Dax spends his time training and earning money to stay afloat. He secretly sends his extra funds to Rory to help them pay for utility and groceries behind his dad's back. His dad's gotten more lax over the years; it was a heavy blow for him to practically lose his first son, and now spends most of the day avoidant and drunk. Dax also tries to reconnect with his half-brother and friends. He's always felt othered by the fact that he's the only one not from Ngorivo, but the boys don't see him any lesser since they all grew up together.
