Warlock. Wife. Mother. Friend. Monster.

Many words can be used to describe Rhai'rael Tye'dori, but none are more accurate than the last. Despite being noble born, this Sin'dorei has scarcely led a life of luxury. Instead, her very person has been molded by death, destruction and pain.

Despite that, Rhai'rael makes it a point to rise above. She has taken her trauma and morphed it into power, thus turning her into a more capable warlock than her peers could have ever imagined.

Beyond that, the other descriptors ring equally true. She has a deeply loving and strong (albeit unconventional) marriage that has borne two beautiful children. To her friends, she is the most loyal protector, doing everything in her power to ensure the safety of her loved ones.

However, even all of that light can not truly erase the darkness that has corrupted her over the years.

Rhai'rael's a complicated individual. At face value, she is cold, judgemental, and proud. She immediately comes off as the sort to listen and learn from her surroundings, taking the path of a scholar in most social situations.

In further interactions, it becomes more obvious that Rhai'rael is not nearly as cold as she lets on. She continues to pride herself on her knowledge, but not in a pompous or overly haughty fashion. Depending on the situation, Rhai'rael can often become rather soft, and has adopted a much gentler demeanor ever since becoming a mother. However, the warlock maintains a rather short fuze, and it takes very little to enrage the warlock, which can have some noticeably explosive side-effects.

In most cases, Rhai'rael prefers to carry herself with confidence and pride, borne of her power and what she has accomplished in her life. Her stride is always long and direct, her hips swaying with every step.

Behind closed doors, Rhai is typically much more relaxed. She's the sort to settle in with a glass of wine and a tome and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the battlefield.

Background

Tye'dori was not always her name. Once a member of the would-be noble family Vyl'thalis, Rhäi'raël was the oldest of three daughters to two magi parents. Magic ran strong in the Vyl'thalis blood, and Rhai'rael was no different. From an early age she was trained in many areas of the arcane, eventually beginning to favor drawing her power from the fire plane--much to the disdain of her parents, each of whom favored the powers of pure arcane and ice above that of fire. Still, their eldest daughter's skill and prowess was too advanced to leave room for much complaint. She spent years perfecting her art, learning and growing as a mage alongside her two younger sisters, A'lariel and Tariela.

Within those years, the young mage made a few friends that would shape the rest of her life, for both better and for worse. A pair of warriors and soldiers for Silvermoon; Lindraellil and Zel'drin, and a mage only slightly her elder named Caia, who happened to be rather involved with the latter warrior. Her meeting with the group was an unexpected one, spawned from a run-in with Lindraellil that led to the two having quite an adventure for the coming weeks. Their nights were often filled with the young, strapping warrior sneaking into the mage's bedroom through her window so they could share in wine and pleasure. Over the course of a few years, they fell hopelessly in love. The four were nearly inseparable. Often, they felt like they were on top of the world, and nothing could separate them or bring them down.

Such was not the case, however.

It took only the Scourge's armies to come marching through Quel'thalas to disrupt the small group's fun. As soldiers, it wasn't long before Lindraellil and Zel'drin both were heading south to fight against the Scourge.

Lindraellil did not return.

The news came down hard on Rhai'rael, who, if not for her two remaining very dear friends, likely would have fallen into a pit of dispair.

Some time later, once the way to Outland had been made accessible by all, the three lifted themselves from their sorrow in hopes that venturing to Outland in hopes of finding something to help their now-Sin'dorei people would make their lives feel meaningful again.

They were wrong, of course.

A raid on their camp one night resulted in the death of Caia, leaving Rhai'rael and Zel'drin alone to grieve with one another. Months passed, and the two stayed together, barely so much as leaving the other's sight for fear of something happening to them. They desperately tried to make up for what the other lacked; love, warmth, protection. Both knew it would never be the same, but they found comfort in one another's grief regardless, growing closer over the next year.

Continuing with their track record of misfortune however, life and luck would not be in favor of the two young elves. Another night. Zel'drin was off hunting for food, while Rhai'rael was back sleeping--trying to. Another demonic ambush stirred the mage from her sleeps, where she awoke to find the forests around her burning. Zel'drin was nowhere to be found. After dispensing some and fleeing from the rest of the demons, Rhai went on the search for her lost companion, but after weeks of searching, found nothing.

For the first time in nearly sixty years, Rhai was once again truly alone. This time however, there was no one to stop her from falling into near-madness.

Sleep did not come easy to the mage. She spent many nights with tears down her cheeks as she cursed at the sky. When she was not mourning all that she had lost, she was studying. The magic of the demons had gradually become rather intriguing for the would-be warlock. To distract herself, she began to study the magic further, which ultimately led to her summoning her first demon--one that was far, far out of her league.

A doomlord that could have killed her on the spot had he so desired. Instead, he did something else without even trying. In summoning him, Rhai'rael corrupted herself. She had been unprepared to expend the amount of magic it took to summon her new slave, and it left her weak. The fel used to summon and enslave the demon corrupted her, giving her skin an ashen hue and her hands a dark, charred look. Little cracks seemed to appear here and there along her form, allowing a fel-tainted glow to peek out. The most noticeable change however was the pair of horns; short and slightly curved, ebony in color, sprouting from the top of her head.

The change should have horrified her, but it didn't.

As the years went on, Rhai'rael used her time to focus solely on the study of fel magic and all things demonic, a decision that led to her disownment from her family at her father's hands, who disapproved of such magics, afraid they would unironically taint the Vyl'thalis name.

Rhai'rael did not care, of course. She continued to practice her magic, eventually becoming a rather formiddable force on the battle field.

She was a member of a small city militia within Silvermoon when everything changed once again.

It was like seeing a ghost. A face she had not seen in years outside of her dreams. There was something different, though. Blonde hair was now snowy white, and tanned skin had since faded to a scarred porcelaine that bordered on unreal. Warm-blue turned green eyes were now back to blue, but there was a strange, almost unerving icey chill to the glowing orbs.

Even despite that, Rhai knew her mate when she saw her. Sadly, the same could not be said for the now-Death Knight soldier. At least, not right away.

It took many, many months for her return to Silvermoon City to start granting the Death Knight her memories. By the end of the year however, she was fully aware of just who her warlock companion was and the bond they had once shared, and luckily for them both, now shared again, even despite the numerous strange looks they got from those uninformed.

Much has happened since Lin's return to Rhai's life, most notably the pair's reclaimation of Lin's birthright, Rhai's reconnection with her mother and sisters, the return of Zel'drin (who had been inducted by the Illidari after her disappearance years prior), as well as the return of Caia after some particularly confusing and elaborately planned time and blood magic to retrieve her dead body from the past and raise her from undeath in the future.

Perhaps the most important change of all however has been the addition of two new members of the Tye'dori family: Kai'drael and Veleane, Lin and Rhai's daughters.

(Don't ask!)

OOC Note: Rhai's history is a convoluted mess developed over 6 years of roleplaying and retconning and re-roleplaying things with my RL wife. If things seem nuts and unbelievable, it's because they are. Don't worry, I'm just as confused as you are.

Description

1274422_Zw764djepnCUIY8.png

The Fel has done a number on Rhai's body over so many years of exposure to its destructive nature. Her skin has dulled somewhat, taking on a slightly more ashen hue. Her hands have darkened even further, deep fel pocks scarring her wrists and hands as a result of her magic. Her nails have hardened somewhat as well, allowing her to file them into sharp points, noticeably longer on her left hand than on her right.

Her most prominent feature however is undoubtedly the twin pair of coal-black horns sprouting from the top of her skull, just behind the hairline of her bangs. The growths are hard and ridged, jutting back along her skull before curving upwards and tapering to deadly sharp points.

Even despite the easily recognizable changes to her appearance over the years, Rhai'rael has been fortunate to still maintain much of her natural beauty. To contrast the jagged horns and deep scars, Rhai has a noticeably gentle face, with rounded cheeks and deep dimples on either side of her mouth, noticeable with even the slightest smile. Her eyes are wide and tapered, though almost always sharpened further with dark liner along the top, with deep shadows underneath in either reddish or purple hues.

Her hair has grown somewhat wild over the years, reaching down past her waist in loose, messy waves. Though the style can vary, she often takes a moment to pull the top-most layer of her hair into a messy bun, cutting down on the thick mane of silvery-blonde she would have otherwise.

Her choice of attire can vary, though heavy robes are a common sight on the blood mage's form, often in shades of scarlet or purple. Various accessories are also often found on her person, ranging anywhere from simple pendants, to glowing soul-gems, or other more useful trinkets.

The one accessory notably always present on the warlock's form--though admittedly not always strictly visible--is a single, somewhat out-of-place looking blue crystal necklace. The pendant itself is simple at first glance: Small and delicate, glowing a soft icy-blue color. The glow of the pendant seems to pulse regularly, almost like a heartbeat.

When in the presence of her wife--the Death Knight, Lindraellil--the pendant noticeably glows much brighter.
