Profile
Description
A kind robot who is devoted to healing those around him. He is able to do so from up close or at a distance by firing bursts of rejuvenating light from his fingertips that both restore health and remove temporary status effects. For attacking, he can summon and use weapons forged of solid light.
Backstory
R-644 came from a wartorn world in the distant future and was mysteriously sent to the past. Memory wiped of everything but his model number, he arrived in a period reminiscent of medieval times. It was difficult to find a town that would welcome him, but eventually he entered the city of Saltcrest that saw many types of people (such as elves, orcs, golems, etc.) where he was able to settle down.
He was taken under the roof of a fisherman, Martin, and his young daughter, Emma, who was suffering a chronic illness that kept her bedridden. As he watched the pitiful child rest, R-644 was overcome with the urge to reach out and touch the girl’s forehead. His hand glowed in an ethereal way and she rose from the bed with more vigor than Martin had seen in years. It was a temporary celebration, however, as Emma returned to her sickly state by the end of the day. R-644 would continue providing healing bursts to her as he lived there.
Martin suggested that R-644 take the name Oswin to better fit in with the community. Also, it was easier to say than R-644. Oswin accepted the name gratefully, feeling like he had been accepted into the family that day.
After Emma’s morning treatments, Oswin would go to work with Martin. He was a decent assistant to Martin, but Oswin didn’t get much fulfillment from fishing. Through conversation, Martin learned that Oswin wanted to be an apothecary. He promised him that as long as he continued to take care of his daughter, Martin would help fund Oswin’s education.
Oswin remained loyal to the cause, even when Emma came of age to marry and found a suitor. He made trips to her new home before work and after. When Emma reached her thirties, Martin kept to his word and provided Oswin with enough money to start his education in medicine. He thanked Martin and kept taking care of Emma throughout school.
Starting his career as an apothecary as soon as he could, Oswin spent his hours not serving customers studying medicine further. His goal was to relieve Emma of her strange illness. Oswin also took care of Martin, who in his old age could no longer work. His routine changed a little to allow him to stop by Emma’s to provide treatment and tend to Martin as needed in the evening. Oswin would look after Martin until his death.
After nearly a decade of trial and error, Emma was cured of her mysterious sickness. Unfortunately, she passed away four years later from a heart attack.
Oswin spent much time expanding on his knowledge regarding plants and medicine. He became an esteemed apothecary in Saltcrest and donates half of his money back to the community, especially to poorer neighborhoods.
