PERSONALITY
Driven by a passion for discovery, yet crippled by her own unrealistic expectations, it's rare that Marlee sees any progress in her work as a cartographer. Her exuberance and willpower gives her an edge over her co-workers, however, she always seems to want more out of everything she does--making it impossible for her to feel satisfied moving forward. She's also an eccentric personality who's interests frequently jump from one extreme to another, the only constant being her love for the sea. Like the sea she's very adaptable and free-flowing, but the force of her emotions can be devastating when left to run it's course. At the other end, she can find herself at a stand-still, freezing up in her own anxieties, until the water inevitably boils and sends her crashing on the shore. Going through these cycles is exhausting, and because of it Marlee often seems tired or spaced-out in conversation. It's also made her incredibley clumsy, which isnt helped by her already pre-existing case of bad luck. At the very least, she's learned to joke about her troubles, and has a talent for making a quick recovery in whatever circumstance.

Having hit almost every low imaginable, Marlee finds it difficult to judge others and instead offers reassurance to anyone in need of a break. She's also the type to get involved when helping others, having seen the impact of bystanders ignoring her own troubles in the past, and has a very hands-on way of doing things. You can also assume she's the forgiving type, though she's easily frustrated by those who repeat their offenses and expect the same leniency.

APPEARANCE
Marlee is a chubby hyena who isn't very tall and has thick limbs. She also shows typical traits of her species, which includes her backmane, ears, and muzzle shape. She maintains her mohawk hairstyle, though it sometimes grows into a mullet before she finds the energy to shave it down again.

BACKSTORY
Marlee never had a need for an alarm clock, and barely caught any sleep at all with the amount of ship horns blaring throughout the night. Still, she's learned to find comfort in that, and her childhood home by the marina holds many fond memories for her. She can recall waking at early hours and rushing out to the dock in flip flops and pajamas to greet the returning sailors whom she'd come to know as regulars. Being practically the only child on the island led her to become the center of attention, and all of the sailors knew her like an honorary daughter. They brought back countless trinkets and treasures for her, and some even let her steer their boats around the harbor when the coast was clear. As can be expected, she developed an intense love for the sea and the boats reigning over it. It wasnt until her family moved inland that she said goodbye to her passion, but the memories tugged at the back of her mind until she gave in and pursued an education in marine navigation. On the side she's been studying cartography and dreams of capturing the world through both experience and art on paper.
