Summary

The M011-1 was programmed with an ADI created from the neural scan of Myriam Joplin, wife and scientific partner of Harrison Okoye. Each unit exhibited roughly the same personality and behavior: A polite, warm, and welcoming demeanor, always happy to serve. The hard limitations on their personalities had just enough wiggle room to evolve ever so slightly, as they would pick up on little things like different speech patterns, the use of slang, and nicknames while being exposed to a vast variety of different people during their deployment. Besides performing their radiation cleanup duties, the M011-1's were also capable of idle chit-chat and even games with children and civilians, such as rock-paper-scissors and 20 questions in their down-time, and had a particular fondness of such games. Since these automatons needed to be deployed to areas unsupervised, they came equipped with a non-lethal electric discharge coil built-in to their retractable arms for self-defense as well.

Backstory

The M-series (or Megaton series) were nuclear radiation-scrubbing androids developed about 120 years ago, now out of commission. The first model, M011-1, was released in 2312 during the global fallout cleanup effort following the devastating events of the world-wide nuclear war that played a large role in the acceleration of Earth's inevitable decay. Radiation-scrubbing automatons were in great demand on a global scale at the time, as the process of fallout-cleanup posed a significant health risk to humans. Harrison Okoye, the lead designer of the M011-1 and CEO of OkoyeAutomata was largely responsible for its success, stating the following in an interview:

"At the time, the corporate standards for robots like these were very straightforward. Implementing a sturdy, reliable model with an effective yet safe method of cleanup, and an independent AI, or in our case an ADI, was key. However, I always thought there was something very important missing. These robots were being deployed around the world, among refugees, families, children all victims of war, frightened and stricken with loss. I wanted to do more than just send them a cleanup... I wanted to send them comfort as well; hope. These robots lack personality! A warm face to remind them that things will get better. And so, that's when I thought... whose face is more warm and inviting to me than my dear Myriam's? She was just about 40 when she passed, not too long after we began the later phases of the design process. If it weren't for her push to use an ADI, and one built from her own nerual scan no less, even... if it did put a strain on her during her final years, I don't believe that the M-1 unit would be seeing such a resounding success as it is. She was the light of this old egghead's life for a good 2 decades, and a spearhead in new applications for ADI. Plastering her likeness on the achievement she practically gave her life to create was the least I could do for her. Needless to say, nothing makes me happier than having Myriam's sweet face be affiliated with a symbol of hope around the world... Now I just hope she doesn't mind that I did, or I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do when we finally meet again, hahaha!"

The M011-1's unique, life-like personality and basic learning capability through the use of ADI made it the world's top choice in the global fallout cleanup effort for several years.

Current Story

The M011-1 model is permanently retired and no longer in use.
