Maritime was well-known in the Waves. She was the daughter of Kith and Kin, the Arrow's first Nock under Makothrash and last under Lurkerfin, the one who ended the latter's tyranny; and Cancíon de Cuna, an experienced senior searcher that had the Arrow wrapped around her paw—not to mention Na'nima', Maritime's grandmother and the beloved former Nurse. She was born the same moon as Saltsong and Fathomtide. The three were known to be a trio after becoming close at a young age. Maritime was a dedicated, protective cat. Her mother had instilled in her a great confidence from a young age, and she was hard-working enough to earn it. It was Maritime's mother who taught her as Archer and Searcher both.

After her mother's disappearance, Maritime became a shell of her former self, chasing a ghost. Her sole remaining family was Na'nima', and the sight of her grief only spurred Maritime to search further and further for any trace of Cuna. Eventually, this search consumed her—a moon after her mother disappeared, Maritime followed.
