Alga was an isolated cat during her life, a prison of her own making. She lived a relatively placid life a fisherman until the rise of Lurkerfin, an Overseer with a lust for war and power. Lurkerfin's rule resulted in many deaths within their Arrow, the East Waves. Alga feared she would one day be called into battle. In the hopes she would be given special treatment, she pursued Lurkerfin and eventually became his mate.

The two had a pair of children together, Makothrash and Brontide. Alga did not feel a connection to them and saw her relationship only as one of duty: she would raise them until they were old enough to leave the Nursery, and saw no reason to continue a relationship after that. She had very little friends in the Waves, being seen as too close to Lurkerfin for some and not close enough for others.

She could not be protected from the war forever. Moons after Brontide was killed in battle, Alga succumbed to starvation as the result of a famine.
