personality depths
traits: Heartache, pain, suffering, death, abuse, shame, regret... Decay knows all of these things. He knows what it is like to go through each and every day, not wanting to breathe or even look somebody else in the eye. He is ashamed of the things he has done, ashamed of what he has become and can not get away from. The scars that cover his body, battle scars, are constant reminders of his past and he hates them with all of his heart. He feels that they portray him in the completely wrong way. They are horrid in appearance and he can not even look at his reflection, for fear that the demon he sees will become real once again. He hates that the first thing others will always notice about him are the scars and brands that litter his body. He is afraid of letting someone get to know him, terrified of hurting someone beyond repair, and he does not trust himself enough to even talk much to anyone. He can come off as rude and ignorant, and even seem like he is giving you the cold shoulder, but this is far from the truth. Decay is simply afraid of becoming what he most fears, of becoming what he already looks like. He doesn't want to be a monster, even though he already knows that he is. What normal horse has impulses to kill? What normal horse prefers to bathe in blood, rather than water? Where is the normality in seeing things that are not there, in hearing voices inside of your head? Every day, it gets worse, and at night it is normal for him to either cry himself to sleep or stay away, paranoid that someone is going to find out about what he's done and punish him. He is constantly wishing on stars, praying and hoping that one day, somehow, everything will turn out okay and eventually, people will realize that he is not his skin. Underneath all the horrific graffiti on his outside is an angel just waiting to be set free.
mental health: Depression, has extreme impulses to kill, blood addiction, hallucinations, delusions, insomnia, paranoia, PTSD

history: Just by looking at his rather dark name, you can probably guess that The Bloodstained Soldier of Elegance and Decay has had a dark and tragic past. It started off in a far away land ruled not by equines, but by the horrid humans that sought to tame their souls. He was part of an 'entertainment unit,' known only as The Soldiers. Each name began with The Bloodstained Soldier Of... and the rest of the name was filled out once they began their fighting. Training would begin at six months. All of the foals were weaned extremely early and nearly all of them died but the humans did not care. They only wanted the ones that could survive. The humans would gang up and attack the foals with anything they had with them: hands, teeth, nails, knives, whips, chains, anything. They trained them at an early age to attack and to kill, some of the humans even died during the process of training the young colts and fillies. By age one, Decay had already killed many but he was always so elegant and graceful in the way he moved, earning him the curse The Bloodstained Soldier of Elegance and Decay. His training progressed to other equines, weak ones that the humans knew it was impossible for him to loose against, and they taught him to always destroy those weaker than himself. There was not a single day that his training stopped, not even for human holidays. Each year, the training would increase, and at the age of four Decay was entered into his first competition. He was sometimes entered in up to one hundred different competitions a year. They were always fights to the death. He, obviously, never lost. Decay hated what he was doing, but once in the ring he was nearly unstoppable. All that training in his youth had paid off. He got no real reward for winning. He got no praise. He got nothing in return for his slaughtering except for scars, guilt, and shame. He spent six years with The Soldiers and he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life there but with a random and highly unexpected stroke of luck one night, one of the humans forgot to lock his stall up and the beast was set free.

Upon arriving in Wild Equines, he claimed a land - the Haunted Battlefield. He lived alone for a time before a father and daughter, Chester and Rascal, asked to join him. They lived in peace. Some weeks later, a mother and daughter pair, Karina and Kaelea, came to ask for a home as well, as the Battlefield lay where their previous home had been. Decay obliged and the herd lived on without any major things happening until one day, the Neutral King at the time, Lord Mortif, came to Decay and asked him to lead the Fire Squad, a group of equines dead set on riding the lands of rapists and killers. Wanting to make himself into a better man, Decay accepted and was given another herd member, Counting Crows, who was the first member of the Fire Squad. Even after Lord Mortif stepped down as King, Decay kept the Squad going.

After years of occupying a sub-herd, Decay wanted to claim The Haunted Battlefield as a mainland (former lands of Linossa). The opportunity came during the reign of Divine (Ali) and Cathair (Ashy) as the Neutral Royals. He was met in the lands by the King, followed by the Queen, and after a chat where he explained what he wanted to do with the Fire Squad (which had been in effect since the reign of Lord Mortif (Bru), Divine (Ali) And Cathair (Ashy) allowed him to take claim to the main land position. Thread. When The Haunted Battlefield became a mainland, once a sub-land under Shadow Canyon, Decay went to each sub-land in search of activity. Herd check for The Spine.

herd: Dark Woods
rank: General (maybe)

interactions:
Carnallust The Charmer: The leader of The Whore House, one of the men that attacked Crow when Crow went on a rescue mission on his own, which is drastically failed at. Decay wants nothing more than to bring Charm and his brothel down.
Cathair: The Neutral King at the time Decay took claim to a main land.
Chester: Rascal's father. Chester isn't too fond of Decay, but the two have come to have a mutual respect for one another.
Counting Crows: The first member of the Fire Squad. He trusts the boy, which says a lot, because Decay hardly ever trusts anyone.
Divine: The Neutral Queen at the time Decay took claim to a main land. Kaelea: Karina's young daughter. Decay is protective of her as well.
Karina: An elderly mare that and mother to Kaelea. Decay had nothing but respect for her, and wants to give her a safe space to live out the rest of her days.
Lord Mortif: A former Neutral King, the one to start the Fire Squad and bring Crow to him for training.
Rascal: A young girl in his herd, who is pretty much his best friend - or, at least, she sees it that way. Decay cares for her and is very protective of her and is sometimes very thankful for her constant chattering because it helps him block out the demons that haunt him.
