Aoi Sumiko

Aoi Sumiko, also known as Gelatine, is a student in Class 2-B at U.A. High School training to become a Pro Hero.

Sumiko is a short girl made up of a blue slime- or goo-like material - this material fades to a purple at the outer edges of her body (head, feet, hands). She’s slightly on the chubby side, carrying most of her weight on her hips and thighs. She has bright, round blue eyes and her ‘hair’ comes to around mid-back and is made of the same sort of substance as the rest of her body. There are also two high twin-tail like pieces of slime/hair on either side of her head.

During school, she wears the regular UA uniform, but without the customary socks or tights. She also opts for white rain boots rather than loafer-style school shoes. Her tie is always slightly messy due to inability to tie it neatly.

Her hero costume consists of a white leotard, cut low in her back and high on her hips, with a water drop shaped cut-out on her chest. It has a pale blue gradient towards the top, and ends at a blue gel-like rounded choker. Bands of the same material are found around her waist, and one on each wrist. The band on her waist holds up a plastic-type skirt that flares wide around her hips. Her stockings and gloves are made of the same material, making them appear semi-transparent. The final piece of her costume is white rubber boots with a blue heel.

Sumiko is a friendly and bubbly girl that tries her best to get along with everyone. She considers most people a friend shortly after knowing them, which sometimes gets her labelled as clingy, but she always has good intentions. She has a strong tendency towards being overly emotional (she cries easily and gets excited easily), and a penchant for the dramatic. She's quite expressive and gestures a lot. She's quite bright and 'book smart' and can remember things well, but she sometimes has trouble applying information later. She's enthusiastic about the things she likes and cares about but tends to be lazy in things she deems less important or less interesting.
To her downfall at times, she is a bit more timid than others in her class - she doesn't like confronting people, something she works through in her time at UA. As far as heroism goes, being such a friendly and people-minded person, she leans more towards rescue and disaster-relief type work.
She's inspired by strong and driven people, since she's aware she can be a bit on the lackadaisical side. She's also drawn to these people by her high level of cooperativeness and timid nature - she prefers to work with strong partners/groups, where she can primarily strategise and play back-up.

Sumiko had an unremarkable childhood. Her mother is a firefighter and her father is an office worker, and she was their only child. She has a happy family life and her parents are supportive of her dreams of being a pro-hero.

Overall Abilities

Sumiko doesn't immediately appear to be suited to combat. This is something she's worked hard to change during her time at UA, and she has now reached a level where she can hold her own in a hand-to-hand fight against other students and villains. Using the flexibility and elevated defense her quirk provides, she works well in short range and medium range combat.

Quirk

Slime Form: Sumiko's body is made of a slime-type material that can liquify and re-form at will. Her body can be stretched or morph shapes depending on the viscosity during use, but the overall volume cannot exceed her normal volume.

Nojima Mai

Good Friends
Mai calls her ‘squirt’. Sumiko was initially terrified of her - her first exposure to Mai was hearing her screaming, and she hoped to never have to cross paths with her. It took Sumiko some time to warm up to her, given Mai's aggressive outward appearance (and the fact that they mostly saw each other during training exercises, in the halls, and at lunch, so it took her a while to even get to know her), but Sumiko later learns her to be a great friend and dedicated to her dreams - which she really admires about her. Mai often pinches Sumiko's cheeks. Mai also loves Sumiko’s movie collection and is constantly begging to come to her dorm room on the weekend and watch movies until dawn - to this, Sumiko usually just puts on rom-coms to get Mai to leave. Mai tries to get Sumiko into dancing with her, but Sumiko hates it, so instead they usually swim together.

Uraraka Ochako

Good Friend/Love Interest
Sumiko and Ochako start out as good friends - the two are quite similar in personality and family life, so they click based on those things. Obviously, this friendship took time to blossom - they met after the sports festival, during Sumiko's second year, and being in two different grades, didn't see each other as often as their other friends. Their friendship is very amicable and open - they're able to chat animatedly and at great length and often swapped platonic affection, things like holding hands, leaning on each other, and hugging were not at all uncommon. Then what started as an unknowingly shared platonic crush, slowly grew into romantic feelings. The two develop a casual romantic relationship, the only real change being that they're more affectionate and comfortable with each other, and have acknowledged their mutual crush. Extremely relationship-type things, like kissing and the like, are maintained for the secrecy of their dorm rooms or respective homes, or on the dates they occasionally manage to sneak out for. Sumiko firmly supports and admires Ochako's decision to put her hero dreams over her romantic feelings, which is the reason their relationship eventually (when Sumiko graduates) goes back to just being very good friends.

• Sumiko initially decided to become a hero because it’s difficult to do other types of jobs when your body is made of slime.
• Sumiko doesn't necessarily like fighting, but she likes helping people so she sees it as a necessity and does her best.
• If she gets too excitable or emotional, she sometimes liquifies partially by accident.
• Sumiko does additional self-study of English in her spare time. (She wants to do hero work in the U.S. eventually, so she's trying to become fluent.)
• Sumiko likes sweets/sweet foods, American pop music, swimming, and spending time with other people.
• She has a sizeable movie collection.
• She’s ruined or lost quite a lot of clothes and shoes due to her quirk, hence her affinity for waterproof shoes.
• She feels lucky to have gotten into UA since her quirk isn't very remarkable.
