Profile

Name: Belle

Gender: Mare

Species: Andalusian/Appaloosa/Draft

Height: 16.1hh

History: Belles father was a prize winning, top quality, purebred Andalusian stallion called Maravilloso. His owner was a horse breeder, who specialised in stunning Spanish horses. Although purebreds were his main focus, occasionally he would seek outcrosses to compliment the breed or to create something with a job in mind.

His latest project in mind was to create a exotic looking, strong, but docile carriage horse, as they could fetch a good price in America. He set off with Mara to America to find a suitably coloured and proportioned mare. His search took him far and wide, scouring towns, villages, camps and outposts for the perfect mare.

After almost a year of traveling, earning money by putting on performances with Mara, he found her. An Appaloosa Draft horse called Sonnet. She was unusually coloured, stocky and strong and very calm. She belonged to a business man in a decent sizes town with a lot of people. The horse breeder offered to buy the mare, but the man wouldn't sell, but he offered him work in exchange for the right to breed his mare.

The match happened quickly and 12 months later, Belle arrived!

Both Mara and Sonnets owners quickly realised that Belle was not like her parents. She had mastered the "mare stare" before she could walk and when her teeth came in, she meant business!

Despite being a diva to handle (especially between the ages of 2 and 4) and feeling the need to do absolutely everything with a flourish, her breeder got used to making Belle think that work was her idea.

Sadly, just after she turned 6, her breeder suffered some bad luck and was forced to try and sell her. Although he had plenty of viewings, her bad attitude meant she wasn't sold. He had no other choice but to sell her for meat, in the hopes to raise enough for a ticket home for himself and Mara.

Belle suspected something was wrong and broke out in the night, running as far away as possible. Her breeder didn't bother to look for her, she was the deserts problem now.

She walked for miles, nibbling any foliage she found and making use of watering holes. She wasn't built for the wild, but she was bold enough to believe she could cope.

After several weeks alone, having only seen a cougar (which she promptly beat up) and various reptiles, she saw a rare sight. She felt relieved, until she realised he was cantering towards her! How dare he approach without her permission!! She mustered her best mare stare, but that didn't put him off advancing, so she lunged, teeth bared! The other horse, Hoagie, finally got the drift and trotted away. Not to be dissuaded, he followed her at a safe distance for weeks on end, until she finally relented and allowed him to walk next to her.

Over the next year, they became an item and Belle fell pregnant. They had several foals over the course of their lives and their herd grew with other feral and wild horses joining along the way.
