Life Story:

Tomoyo was born and raised in Konoha. Long before her grandparents' time the Chou clan was a part of the Aburame clan. A member wanted to marry someone of an enemy village and they were threatened to be disowned if they did. Before letting the clan act first, they broke themselves off out of spite. They ran away to elope with their "enemy" and together they formed the Chou clan. Over the generations the grudge between the clans simmered but there are still some people (mostly elders) that will quietly shun the small Chou clan and call them traitors behind their back. Generally though, the Chou clan lives in quiet harmony around the Aburame clan, but not with. Because of this history, Shino and Tomoyo knew each other growing up. Growing up they had a distant, yet respectable sibling-like relationship. Drama ensued when the Aburame clan and Tomoyo's father (primarily) tried to marry Shino and Tomoyo when they were older in order to re-unite the two clans. Both were very uncomfortable with this but tried not to make a big show about it since they were so young when this was discussed. Just before starting their first years in the academy, they stood up to their families, both sternly stating that they will not go through with this no matter what. The Aburame clan accepted this without issue, but Tomoyo's father was outraged and embarrassed. His behavior and love plummeted. He started drinking and became verbally abusive towards his wife. Eventually Tomoyo's mother chose to divorce him, and Tomoyo became closed-off, deeply resenting her father. Tomoyo and her mother stayed at the house while her father left, and hasn't been heard of since. To cope with the pain and loss, Tomoyo tried to internalize her voiced emotions, but instead the emotions caused physical trauma and rendered her albino condition worse. She was even more sensitive to the sun than she was before. Because of this, Tomoyo was gifted a parasol to use regularly. Nowadays she's upgraded that parasol into her own personalized weapon.

 Tomoyo's mother owned a jam shop that sold, well, jam, jelly, honey, etc. All homemade from the berries they grew in their garden. The Yamanaka clan often complimented the Chou's garden and both families got along for having a similar passion, and Tomoyo grew to adore flowers. Ino and Tomoyo became friends from a young age as well around this time. By the time Tomoyo reached 13 years old or so, she started to develop romantic feelings for Ino. Confused and conflicted, she kept it secret besides telling her mother. As Tomoyo saw Ino grow and change during their adolescence, she witnessed the relationship between her and Sakura. She started to feel intimidated and lose some of those feelings for Ino, but they still remained friends, and her affections were still kept a secret. They weren't as close as they used to be. They do become closer when they're older though.

Because of her quiet, almost mute nature, Tomoyo didn't have a lot of friends, but she did have a lot of love and kindness inside. Due to this inevitable loneliness, it also made her quite observant of those around her. She couldn't help but notice one day her classmate (whom she managed to have lunch with once), Alira Masaoka, seemed particularly distraught, however it was fairly subtle and no one was comfortable with asking about the details. She noticed that Alira was alone most of the time too. She gathered the courage to speak with her now and then, though she often felt her efforts were futile.

One of Tomoyo's favourite things to do was to sit under her porch and watch the gentle rain fall while reading manga. The rain would always clear up right before she finished reading, and at least one butterfly would always flutter by. She found this magical and developed a deep connection to butterflies because of these occurrences. When she noticed Alira's distress she couldn't get it off her mind, so she wanted to help in any way she could. She knew what it felt like to hurt alone - and while her mother suffered too in her own way, Tomoyo still felt alone. She was afraid of being overbearing, so she started by "subtly" sending little chakra butterflies to Alira. Shortly after she started attaching little notes to them, and Alira was able to reply if she chose. Tomoyo always felt really excited and happy to receive a reply that she almost got a high off of it. Alira stopped replying for a while, and Tomoyo decided to be persistent. Eventually she sent one last butterfly that she put as much love-filled chakra into as she could and thankfully this was enough to have Alira bring herself to mend her half of the friendship. Over time they became best friends and were even put on teams with each other (it happened to work out that where one was weak in an area, the other excelled). From all this time spent together, Tomoyo felt bonded to Alira so strongly that she didn't even think it was possible. That bond remained, but also developed into a deep affection for her best friend. Tomoyo keeps this a secret from everyone, including her mother, but she isn't the greatest at hiding it... She becomes easily excited and blushes when Alira does something "cool" because she's so amazed and proud of her. Knowing Alira doesn't share those feelings however, Tomoyo keeps it to herself out of respect for Alira's affections for Itachi Uchiha.
