Description
Starts out in the series as the primary antagonist. He’s the local district attorney who does everything in his power to interfere with Bruce’s investigations, by utilizing his resources to stay ahead on the path. He comes off as very stern, standoffish, and cold, not saying much to others unless it’s necessary. He engages in frequent soliloquies, planning alone. 

In a later season, he has a redemption arc subplot where it’s revealed that he’s actually very thoughtful and well-meaning, but he’s too afraid to show his inner emotions. He falls in love with the defense attorney (an ally to Bruce) and ends up entering a relationship with him after his feelings are reciprocated. This forces him to resign his position due to a conflict of interest. He then becomes a supporting character and works with Bruce as a consultant. 

In every episode he appears in, at least the first scene he’s in features him wearing his trademark maroon (a brownish-crimson) suit. He never wears the same tie twice, which has incited a sort of craze of fans keeping detailed collections of his tie patterns. 

His vernacular and style of clothing suggest that he would be better suited in a show from the 20th century. 

He drives a car very similar to this one.

The actor’s contract ran out at the end of season 12 and he chose to not renew it. His departure scene at the season 12 finale was so well done and touching, that it’s frequently on critics’ “Top Character Departures” lists. After leaving the show, the actor went on to try on many different hats, becoming a critically acclaimed director and screenwriter.

Because the ratings in season 13 began to fall after his departure, the director chose to add many odd plot elements to see what would help pull interest back into the show, finally hitting upon the concept of salad aliens.
