He is the son of Blacksteel and Earthroot. Blacksteel is calm, confident and a little blunt, and Earthroot is warm, caring and a little overbearing. Blade is usually on good terms with them, although he tends to argue with his father. He's the former lovemate of Redlight and the father of Daybreak.

Blade had a special bond with Redlight since they were teenagers. They became lovemates when they became adults. Always living their own, separate lives, they worked together to raise their daughter Daybreak. Blade was not as good a warrior as his father, but he had better teaching skills, so he was the one who trained the youngsters. Daybreak became a warrior, like her father, but she was killed in the troll war. Desperate for revenge, Blade killed the troll leader who had killed her. During the battles he teamed with Daybreak's best friend Sundew and they bonded during these years. After the war he had a hard time for a while, getting into a lot of arguments and fights with the rest of the tribe because he had such extreme ideas about how to protect the tribe. During one battle, one of his former students turned against him to prevent him from spiraling out of control. Eventually the trauma caught up with him. Feeling nobody cared about him, he isolated himself. Sundew kept visiting him, but he barely nodiced her at first. As he healed, he reconnected with her and eventually returned to his tribe, ready to cooperate with them once more. He is no longer a teacher, and he prefers to be teamed up with Sundew, because he has problems, trusting others in combat situations.
