Bayleef was Laurel’s first Pokémon, received from Professor Elm in New Bark Town as a Chikorita. He is her primary partner and spends most of his time at her side and outside of his Poké Ball. Laurel has studied a sample of his leaf for its herbal properties, but he usually makes himself useful through the aromatherapeutic properties of the shoots that grow from his neck, as well as his ability to manipulate vines.
Aipom found Laurel early in her journey, who was surprised to be pelted by berries from the trees. He likes to tease people by grabbing something of theirs with his tail and waggling just out of their reach. He helps Laurel gather berries and apricorns for her herbal medicines.
Laurel found Diglett while exploring the mountains to the northwest of her old home in Cianwood City. He is a hard worker, helping to till and fertilize the soil where Laurel grows her herbs. Diglett is also handy in finding useful subterranean fungi, such as poria.
Paras was caught in a bug-catching contest. She’s very helpful with Laurel’s herbal remedies by providing tochukaso, which is periodically gathered from Paras’s back. Because the mushroom is so deeply rooted, it grows back over time. Paras also helps her trainer find nutritious roots. Paras hasn’t evolved because Laurel continues to harvest her mushrooms before they can get too large, though she intends to let Paras evolve someday because the spores of a mature tochukaso are extremely useful.
