In an alternate universe where Nightmare Moon successfully took over Equestria, Cadance, her husband Shining Armor and the Crystal empire attempted to stand up to her. Nightmare Moon not only conquered their rebellion, but as punishment and as a message to other potential rebells, personally took Cadance and Shining prisoner. She chose to inflict the most painful torture imaginable upon them- she stole away their newborn filly, and raised her for herself. The filly never learned of her true parents, and, infected by Nightmare Moon's dark power, grew into a mighty war machine. 

When she discovered the multiverse, she decided to impress her mother, she would take over her own Equestria. In fact, she'd conquer every world she came across.
