Sango Yanagi

"Mama says it's good to have friends -- so d'ya wanna be friends with me?! I got lollipops!"

Sango is the daughter of Hiraku Yanagi and Jenette Yanagi, two accomplished and well respected zoologists. Having always shown a liking for bees, she received assistance from her parents in learning more about them, and eventually went on to cultivate her own hive.

Through her own individual research and pursuits, Sango was able to develop a hardy strain of honey bee that was able to deal with a fungal infection that had been devastating local hive populations, both domestic and otherwise. After integrating members of this strain into different hive systems, Sango was able to help cut back on the loss, which garnered attention from other beekeepers, as well as entomologists. She received a few different awards for her efforts and continues to work with the conservation of bee populations in mind. Sango works most closely with the conservation organization World Hive, which strives to inform the public about the importance of bees and their survival through outreach programs and other events.
