Sekmir was trained as a combat medic in the Windsinger’s legion, and lived most of their life transferring from camp to camp to treat the wounded. The unparalleled suffering they saw at the hands of other dragons shook them to their very core, and after a particularly bloody battle they retreated to the Cloudsong to clear their mind and live as a druid. They studied the “old magic” of the Windsinger, and through countless hours of meditation they discovered a way to use wind magic to open the little tears in the material world and easily traverse Sornieth by taking shortcuts through limbo. This allowed them to instantly appear at the sides of lost travelers, injured warriors, or anyone else who needed them and provide them with emergency care, but in many cases they are too late and they must ferry the dragon’s soul into the next life instead.

Sekmir found the Tavern as many do - accidentally. They were somberly guiding a soul to the afterlife when they stumbled upon the Tavern instead, and Vahlokdozii welcomed them in for a warm cup of tea. As Sekmir learned about the Tavern’s, they were immediately drawn to its mission to provide a safe haven for creatures undergoing transitions, alive or dead. Sekmir explained their own abilities, and Vahlokdozii offered the Tavern as a refuge when Sekmir was between rescues and a potential rest stop for souls traveling beyond limbo. Relieved to have the support of others in what was often a very lonely job, Sekmir eagerly agreed.

Now, Sekmir serves as an emergency medical response dragon who uses the network of limbo pathways that snake past the Tavern to quickly get to creatures in crisis all over Sornieth. Sekmir picks up the creature in distress wherever they are, provides what emergency care they can, then shepherds them to the next stage of their existence - whether that is being treated and cured by the Tavern’s healers, taking their final journey to the afterlife, or making a permanent life in the Tavern.

Generally Sekmir is sweet and energetic, but their role providing first response medical care to creatures in need takes its toll and they can easily fall into despair. No matter how many times they are told it is not their fault an injured stranger dies (“And in fact, these strangers are quite fortunate to have such a caring dragon in their presence in their final moments!”), Sekmir takes each life lost as a personal failure. After particularly stressful encounters, Sekmir elects to wander alone for weeks, travelling on the breezes of Sornieth and crossroads of limbo alike to gather herbs and trinkets. Though they have tried Kunzii’s myriad of suggested therapies, Sekmir always returns to the comfort of their druidic rituals in order to relax and feel well enough to continue their work.

Over the years Sekmir has grown close to the other medics at the Tavern, though they have bonded with Nil the most due to their shared love of familiars. Just before Sekmir departed for another ritualistic wandering to clear their mind, Nil gifted them a small black kitten he had found curled up at the Tavern’s hearth in the middle of the night. Since the kitten was likely born in limbo (“perhaps the first ever!”), she could travel with Sekmir between the mortal and ethereal planes without trouble. They named the kitten Rovit (“Scout”), and she has not left Sekmir’s side (and often, head) ever since.
